How to build a quality eMTB using Dengfu frame and Bafang motor

When Bosch came out in 2010 with their Gen 1, only available in the EU, motors it was obvious that they would come to the US but they chose not to until they had partnered with Magura to handle their supply and service here as well as putting on service courses to certify mechanics. This was very smart.

Bafang is seeming to get on that bandwagon now at a much later date but the market is still maturing, even in the EU, and there is no doubt that they have the ability to design eBike motors but they have never been at all good about after sale support. That is about to change according to this:

Doesn't do anything for the US market but if brands in the EU that also market here start to adopt Bafang systems that might change but is going to take awhile.

The DIY market here and the hub motor bikes like RAD will remain popular here but I don't see any love coming in that direction from Bafang in regards to mid drives as they adopt CAN BUS type controllers and are dropping the ability to easily change parameters within. Doesn't mean the popular M620 is going away but it doubt we'll be seeing any improvements other than custom efforts by smaller companies like the silent gear thing being promoted that Bafang could easily recognize as an issue and take care of itself.

Hold on, are you saying the Sondors LX which is rated for 300lbs but also weighs 89lbs can't handle a 225lbs man, because that puts it over?
Or a 200lbs man and 25lbs of extra gear?
That’s a good question. Sondors should be specific whether it’s combined rider/ebike weight or not.

How much it would cost to build ebike around some cheaper aluminum hardtail frame? Or is it cheaper to buy all the parts frame included separately from alibaba?

Probably around $3000 including a top-quality suspension fork, brakes, and drivetrain.
I am not sure what kind of quality control they can offer if they sell an 840Whr battery for $350.
When it comes to batteries, there is a lot more than what meets the eye.

After Rob posted the videos, I heard that Dengfu received about ~500 orders from EU customers within a span of a month.

So, they have started offering full bikes. The one referenced in this thread can be purchased for $4200.

I will be visiting China in October and EBR folks are interested, I can visit Dengfu and interview the folks and make a detailed video of their factory.

Several EU customers have built their bikes. More details in this forum thread:

What is that model bike that has "Santa" on the downtube?

It's the same E10 model but the photo angle makes it look different. Someone who is into bikes named it "Santa" to mimic the famed "Santa Cruz" brand

Hi all,

I am new to mountain ebikes. Tested couple of bikes Cannondale and Specialized, but they are outside of my price range($7000 and up). Could you please help me to choose a decent built ebike between $3000-$4000?

From the forums these I’ve read https://www.emtbforums.com/communit...otor-build-the-cheeb-v1-0-build-thread.17725/

I think that I would love to have a carbon dual suspension frame with bafang 750-1000w (M600 with 120 NM) motor, carbon wheel-set(29 front 27.5 back) , decent quality shock, fork, brakes, and adjustable seat-post. I am not sure if I'll feel the difference with the rest of the components.

I like natural style biking and do not need a throttle, but do not want to have a speed limiter so I can ride to the mountain trail from the house quicker.

I really like Dengfu E10 geometry(Bike Rob built) and the fact that I can have a bigger front wheel to help with downhilling.

So far I found these options for sale. What do you guys think?

You could probably add the Sondors Rockstar, Biktrix Juggernaut Ultra FS, Frey AM1000 to your list for consideration as reference bikes.

For the Dengfu model like being talked about on EMBN your only option is to deal with Luna as they have the exclusive North American distributorship for the M600 frame and only sell a complete bike, that is if they ever do another run of them....

The other Alibaba bikes, unless one or more are Denfu offerings I didn't look at them all, are buyer beware but you could get lucky.
