Hi everyone.
I'm just into my 8th decade and a couple of months ago bought a Cube Kathmandu. I've done about 600 miles so far and I'm delighted by the experience. This is the first bicycle I've owned for more than half a century - although I've owned numerous motorbikes. I have a few things to recount but for the present I'd really appreciate an opinion on something.
Yesterday I cleaned the bike and de-greased chain and sprockets prior to re-lubricating. It's the first time I've taken a close look at the sprockets although I've cleaned and re-lubed a couple of times previously - the bike was also serviced by the supplier at 300 miles.
From previous experience (including with tracked vehicles which essentially have a similar chain and sprocket track system) I was shocked to see the irregular and widespread wear on the sprockets. In the case of the lowest gears I have seldom even engaged them given that my cycling is predominantly on level hard surfaces. I have contacted both the supplier and the agents for Cube but have yet to receive a response (I've more to say on that in due course).
Opinions greatly appreciated!
