Our Rides in Words, Photos & Videos

This morning I had a lot of business to attend to but thankfully my afternoon was free and the weather was perfect for cycling! No howling winds or driving rain and a perfect 15C temp, what a fantastic ride I had! :D Mostly on roads like this with very little traffic!

I passed the canal twice today but wasn't lucky enough to catch the bridge opening up this time!

Its such a joy to ride without having to dodge crazy wind gusts for a change, our 'summer' has been the windiest I can ever remember! The great roads just continued and I was in cycling heaven for sure!

Most of the time I'm flying down this one but I decided it was time to climb it today, it was certainly a day of climbing with over 4000ft of elevation!

Nice views near the top!

After some days of trying to sort everything out after my dads passing, it was great to get back in the saddle and just relax! Cycling is such a fantastic sport, I hope I can continue for many many years!👍

No issue whatsoever. The entry didn't ask for the bike type. Everyone was on a "bike" bike. Some were commuter types like mine, most dropped bar gravel bikes. Nothing that stood out as a quasi-motorcycle or screamed ELECTRIC.

Mine was the only ebike I noticed in the ride, and my Vado (as you know) is somewhat stealth. I didn't see all the bikes, just a percentage, because we went off in specified group times. Plus it wasn't a race and they VERY strongly discouraged any type of racing activity. In capital letters on the ride instructions.

But it does give me something to think about.
I'd love to take part in the kind of the ride you described! (Anyway, the United States is the "Home of Gravel Cycling"!)

I might be admitted to the "Gravel Folks" 130 km ride here (as it seemed to be a relaxed event). Not sure I mentioned my old riding friend "That Woman Who Beats me" actually won the Gravel Folks race! A female!

I'm afraid they would disqualify me from a race such as Mazovian Gravel though. No issue to ride with gravel folks for fun though.

Today, 35.5 and about 1,770 feet. Two bridges and an island. A gray, very gray day and about 62F. So compared with what some of you are contending with - a good day, I guess. Actually, a I guess there were three larger bridges and a smaller one or two!

In another forum there was a bit of discussion about the Mercer Island loop. So I added to the background some more info

I understand that way back when, there was a thought of purchasing MI and making it a Seattle City Park. A real missed opportunity billions of tax dollars later.

A friend lived on the same road as Paul Allen (Microsoft) on the west side. When driving there, you'd pass a sign on a small bridge "Under video surveillance" since you were passing Allen's estate. Which brings me to the question I asked my friends. "I thought this area was zoned for Single Family homes. What's with the apartment complex two doors away" Answer: "It is Paul Allen's HOUSE" Seriously it ranged up and over the hill and was this sprawling THING!

Ah, found at this link:

An 11,000 sq ft music hall!!!! I am still chuckling as I post this.

Have had quite a busy week this week, so not been out since our holiday till yesterday.

Last week we had a cycling holiday in the Norfolk Broads and Great Yarmouth area. I’m doing a little write up of this and will post in the next few days.

This was the first time that Mrs DG had really used her new Nevo3. She much preferred it to her old Wisper 705, but it did develop some issues during the holiday; mileage was not reading correct, too low, a number of error messages and the motor cutting out.

We popped it back to the LBS who checked things over, cleared the faults and reset everything. They also repositioned the magnet on the rear wheel.

So yesterday we managed to get out for a quick test ride to test out the bike and it worked OK. No error messages and the mileage matched mine, so hopefully all fixed now.

One of the changes to the current model of the Nevo3 is the rear light. It has changed from a Busch & Muller to a SuperNova, with a brake light facility. This is operated by a switch from the brake lever and is incredibly bright.

Mrs DG said could I have this on my Nevo3 as this would tell her when I’m stopping, so we investigated our options. Found that B&M have a new rear light, the “Line Brex”, with a braking function. However, it does not require a switch to work but uses sensors.

Ordered one of these and fitted it yesterday, so part of the ride was to test this out too. Mrs DG reports that this works well, it doesn’t go brighter when you start braking, but when you are almost stopping it comes on for about 3-4 seconds. Admittedly it is a compromise , but then you don’t need additional wiring or new brake levers, etc., plus it does look nice also.

Received my new helmet, gloves and vest yesterday (see feral cat post for why 😱), so at last was able to get out on a short "reacquaintance" ride on my La Free! Just over 5 miles today to check everything out again - looking forward to a longer ride tomorrow 😁!
