Had a couple rides today, first one went out to have breakfast, ended up getting a flat on the rear wheel, grrrrr. Of course I was about 7 miles from home and nobody was available to give me a ride home, so took a Uber, luckily there was a guy with a pickup available!

So I brought out the beast of the east, and rolled over a couple of kids waiting for the bus, hahahahaha
Tomorrow I'm gonna do some more drone testing, wind is supposed to be calm, not like it has been lately.
Rock On...

After three flats in a year, I’ve gotten sick & tired of being sick & tired and got Tannus Armor inserts. Hope it helps! Beast of the east looks like fun…until you get a flat.😳

Heading home…

Sandgate Beach, Brisbane

Sandgate, Brisbane
94 km; 12:05 pm
Watch where you're going: a moment's lack of concentration and you could be off the cycleway and onto the mudflats two metres below! I suspect the health and safety brigade will put an end to the 'danger' before long.

I'm not sure why there is a combination of wide mudflats and narrow beach; perhaps, it is the result of clearing mangroves a century ago.

2nd Vaccination & Dem Cookiez Dinner :)

Second Corminaty shot to get on Wednesday 10:00. I rode out with Lovelec; with pleasant 23 C and aided by very strong tailwind, I reached the vaccination place in 21 minutes! (No ill effects save arm-ache).

I don't even want to think how long it would take by car because of inevitable morning traffic jam in the area. (I intentionally extended my return trip to make more than 20 km).

Afternoon meant 27 C and very strong wind (nothing wrong if you ride an e-bike, and the wind can cool your body nicely). I fancied some cakes at Klimatyczna Cafe in Leszno. As my diabetic friends try to explain it: "Ate a cake? Means you've already had your dinner!" :) So I went for a Cake Dinner to Leszno :)

"Palace by Kampinos", Leszno (Mazovia). Until recently, I haven't been aware such a nice building existed there! (It is a conference centre, banquet hall, and wedding house nowadays).

Many smoke stacks have been converted to mobile telephony towers recently. The one in Leszno.

My dinner at Klimatyczna Cafe in Leszno. The owner -- seeing me in cycling clothes -- either gives me a discount or offers a bonus cake. The "wuzetka" (W-Z Cake, at the right) bonus turned out to be even more delicious than the other cake!

Visually navigating towards the "beacon", or Moszna Smoke Stack. The stack is clearly visible from Leszno!
Top: As seen while riding along rail-road in Płochocin.
Middle: The poor quality gravel road is one of the best shortcuts when coming back home from the North. Notice the cloud of dust created by a car. It was very windy today!
Bottom: The smoke stack by Jabeerwocky Brewery has been inoperable for many years now. The newly build brewery is operating on electricity. (I don't think they have started brewing yet).

Notice consistent average speed on both trips despite of strong wind. The hub-motor Lovelec usually maintains constant good speed regardless of road conditions.

OMG! That much sugar would be an instant Widow Maker for me!😳

Oh my gosh, indeed!

Yes, Stefan, we've noted the nibble marks in the chocolate layer atop one of the 'widow makers'. Couldn't wait until after the photo? We understand. ;)

Poland, here we come!

Unintended landfall?

Wreck of the Gayundah : Woody Point, Redcliffe Peninsula

Wreck of the Gayundah

In my previous post I mused on the possibility of 'falling off' the cycleway and ending up in the sea or on the mudflats. Sometimes, the reverse happens!

If the truth be admitted – let's not go there – the Gayundah was 'deliberately' run aground to stabilise the foreshore.

This is more than a pleasant spot for walkers and cyclists to take a break; it is also a favourite place for accomplished musicians to play their instruments, either in solitude or for lingerers to enjoy. Love it!

I borrowed a page out of @RabH 's book and decided to get a healthy dose of reality by going for a spin yesterday on a standard bike just for old time’s sake. It wasn’t out of necessity but simply based on a desire to ride the lightest bike in the fleet. No slouch on its own, the Scott Metrix is a sub 19 lb urban road bike that should deservedly be ridden as much as its e-powered stable mates.

Outfitted with Panaracer Gravel Kings it can also venture off tarmac unlike the Creo which is currently dedicated exclusively to a solitary life on the road.

Light, nimble and responsive, the Metrix immediately comes alive when sprung into action. I felt somewhat remiss since its Specialized cousin moved in and staked its claim at the prime hanging spot on the garage wall. I endeavor to take it on group rides comprised primarily of acoustic riders. So far Covid restrictions have stymied any chances of that happening any time soon. It was too nice of a day to pass up a ride on the Metrix along the local pathways. It will back to business for the Trance on Wednesday.

Today’s ride was a somewhat hastened one as I promised my better half that I would help out at our community garden vegetable plots as soon as I returned home. I completed my regular trail runs through Heritage Ranch and the Pines and then at the spur of the moment decided to dispense with some unfinished business.

@steve mercier - Would love to see a video of you all attempting to climb the 23 % hill.

Hmmm…….about that hill, Steve. I took another run at it today and almost made it. Those darn tree roots get me every time!! I had to deploy walk mode once again to assist me up the remaining few feet to the top. In hindsight, I should have taken the root-free line to the right near the crest. 😒
