-25C this morning. Too cold to even ski. I do have the polar wax out if I decide to get brave.

Wind chills down to -35C today. And tonight and tomorrow will be even colder.

Gawd I hate you
@Prairie Dog! Minus 53C in Lloydminster!!! Penguins in Antarctica probably can't survive that.
I am 1/3rd of the way into that book when I realized it is homo-erotic; What?, so the joke is on me.
Here is more of that fluffy white stuff. What is really weird is at the same time we have trees full of dead leaves with emerald green hills.

The first, KOA, is in Petaluma, so you can take the train and a ferry to San Francisco or Angle Island in the middle of the bay to bike.

It was -52 WC this morning but the wind suddenly died and now it’s only -40C. Woohoo! 🤣Just came in from shoveling snow for an hour and I was totally warm clad in appropriate layers similar to what I wear on winter rides. Hands were toasty with Motion Heat liners underneath OR Goretex mitts. I have yet to find a balaclava that fits my head/face properly without it sagging or becoming frozen from my breath. Those pics of yours are certainly a pleasure to see since we are still a couple of months away from the Spring Equinox. If it’s any consolation, Dec was one of the warmest months on record. Hope to get out on the bike after the weekend. 🤞

my OR is a tight but comfortable fit. I have this model, https://www.outdoorresearch.com/products/wb-fs-balaclava-usa-243554?variant=47059986710849

Two of the best things I bought in 2023 are an indoor smart trainer and a monthly subscription to Fuzgaz.
Lately, most of my rides are on my indoor trainer, but occasionally I do get to ride outside. I could ride outdoors a lot more, but it's so easy to hop on my trainer (tee shirt and shorts), turn on my 50" TV, load Fulgaz and go for a ride in various locations throughout the world.
Yesterday I did a ride in Australia. A couple of days ago I was 'in' the UK. Before that it was the French wine country.
Having said that I still much prefer riding outside......when the weather's nice. ;)

Do people from Balaclava eat baklava and wear balaclavas? 🤪
Funny you should mention that. 45North actually sells a Baklava Balaclava. I’m guessing that the open mouth design allows you to inhale the baklava while the long drape neck prevents any of those flaky morsels from falling inside your outer apparel keeping things neat and tidy. 😅

My merino balaclava has let me down simply because my head/face is likely smaller than most out there but then again, it’s a O/S fits all. I’ve tried others but either the nose/mouth port don’t line up right and ultimately result in fogging up my glasses. I really like OR products but unless I can test fit one, I might have to do with what I have for now which is adequate for winter riding. That being said, I just might bite the bullet and get one in a S/M size.

This is what sick peole do in winter. My son's club is sponsoring, so he is in truck picking up bodies. Bar hop 17 mile minimum, 70 miles longest.

Yeah, we were at -27C this morning as well (-16F in Freedom Units). Nearby they were reporting -33C on the valley floor.

I took the dogs for a ten minute walk this morning. After that I think they are going to stay inside and hold it until March...

man 13 degrees here in portland oregon. thats very unusual. but the wind is bad too 18mph with 40mph gusts. the snow sounds like froze stuff as it hit the house. the wind does not get read on this. Stumpy our stub tail squirrel with something wrong with his hind legs. I made this feeder to help him out and he is family tame wont run off when you pen the door and till take a dropped nut a few feet from me.

Roxie generally loves snow.

But when Arctic blasts from Canada (our so-called friends) brought Denver's fallen snow temps down to 5°F or below, she wanted nothing to do with the stuff — and even less to do with foot coverings of any kind.

As the Arctic blasts became more frequent in the last decade (lookin' at you, Canada), this became a serious problem. Musher's wax on the paw pads helped a little.

Woke up to 36°F and rain in the SF Bay Area this morning. That's plenty cold enough for me nowadays. Tomorrow, we'll return to Carlsbad's low 60s to high 40s.

If you like to pedal, winter's arguably our best riding season.
