Winter Sucks

I've heard this is fun!

According to this graphic Canada is exempt from the cold snap. The magical border wall must be working.

See, winter doesn't suck so much after all! Love the bike. We expect video.

The big Pacific storm that just gave NorCal a good (and well-deserved) lashing has given soutwest SoCal a few mild to moderate rains, mostly overnight. Last night's was the biggest, and it came with lots of thunder and even some offshore water spouts.

The thunder reminded me how much I used to enjoy the convective drama that comes with living in Colorado. Nothing like a big booming thunderstorm to make you feel alive.
especially if you are running an old cabless( not even a rollcage) roller your dumbass boss made you run during a thunderstorm with your skin tingling and hair standing up
Happy New Year!
Today I finished an adult trike build. Which was great because it gave me something to do in the rain yesterday. Then I went for a ride in the hills and had tandoori chicken & lamb for lunch.

I spent a Winter in Northern N.D. at -32F, -36C, walking to school, with Christmas in norther MN. What is interesting is that -40 is the same in Celsius and Fahrenheit. That is when you toss boiling water into the air it immediately freezes. What sucks about today is that I can't get anything done. I just want to ride bikes and read books in the sun. I have three bikes I need to work on and I haven't done anything! The sunshine is too alluring to be inside. Gott 'a get out. The latest book for reading in the sun is Classical Mythology fan fiction produced by a total babe & genius Ph.D. teaching the Classics at U. Penn. I am such a moth to a flame when it come to big brained beautiful ladies. Sucker. I can't help it.

cold and awrm water are strange,we tried to pressure wash some dumptrucks in the winter off season to haul turkey litter- the water froze on the trucks almost immediatley( 40F and 40C are at what they call the "gosh point" interesting coincdences 0

we got down to 12 degrees. today we got up to 24 degrees mostly ice stuff not really snow. but tomorrow it wont get above melting maybe Tuesday. so no riding till the middle of the week. yesterday I walked to the store with 42mph gusts and 20mph wind and 14 degrees it was interesting.

The definition of Climate Change: Going South for the Winter. 65 and sunny again today. Mid 70s for the rest of the week. Resort living in Arizona.

Going South for the Winter.
The 'Canadian Geese' have taken to staying here all year. They eat the seaweed when the tide goes out and graze on the young shoots in a field by the tidal river. Their numbers have tripled in four years. The babies, goslings, appear in March. The swans like it ten miles to the south in a fresh water lake with their broods. They are lovely to watch.

still cant ride the roads dont really get plowed so even with snow tires it would be hard riding. plus it has not gotten above 25 so no melting. we got another Ice storm warning for this afternoon. so more bus riding. now I know why I ride a bike going ot the store and riding the bus on foot eats huge amounts of time.

are they still a protected species? they stay all year now and it used to be rather awesome when a gaggle would fly over.

I love to watch the goslings grow. It is so fast. Right now that huge flock is grazing in a field of mostly baby mustard greens and wildflower sprouts. There are two large flocks within 1/2 mile of each other. They are culturally distinct. One is by a lake surrounded by grass. The other is on the tidal river. The river flock is more hardy and healthy looking with a better diet of natural things like seaweed when the tide goes out, and not just lawn grass.
I broke my bike's frame today. The dealer is getting me a new one. The mfg used the wrong seat post, too short by 20mm.

Federally protected here in the US — meaning that you can haze them as an adversely affected property owner, but you can't physically harm them.

With a permit, you can also oil the eggs of resident geese to prevent hatching. And you can destroy nests without a permit as long as no eggs are present.

Our Denver neighborhood included a small lake and surrounding greenbelt, both of which were negatively impacted by large numbers of resident Canada geese. Our HOA called in a professional goose hazer several times each winter. The guy was very busy, as Canada geese were a big and rapidly growing problem all over the Denver metro area.

For the record, they're "Canada geese", not "Canadian geese".

These Canada geese super primed on stuff like wild baby mustard greens. I will pick a bunch with a friend or two with a dog in a 40-acre field next week and give them to our favorite French Chef to make something special and maybe a Green Grocer. They will be so tender. It will have rained for 7 days straight by then. The vitamin K level is off the charts. Any fiber is good fiber. I accidently ate at an over priced greasy spoon yesterday, garbage, just carbs, fat, salt, and sugars. The patrons looked unwell. The country radio was off the signal slightly. It was $28 for a hydrogenated Rubin and limp greasy fries. Never again.
