Winter Sucks

I went through this in a scientific pub conversation, I personally dont know anyone who died of covid, not even friends family.
No one in the pub who joined in the chat knew anyone who had died of it.

It turned out one of the guys who gives you a ticket at the station on our local line died of it.

My mothers partner, in his late 80s with severe heart failure caught it in hospital...barely a sniffle, cruised through it.

Its kind of reassuring..not on an individual level of coures...that we are all diverse enough that a virus..natural or constructed is unlikely to take us all out.

My father died of Covid last year. He was 94. I had never tested positive for Covid up to that point, but I caught it from him when I went to help him while he was sick. It was like a bad flu for me. I am 62 years old and had the original Pfizer vaccination but none of the boosters. It is definitely deadly to older folks and those with a compromised immune system. So is the flu.

My son had a race today.

It is riding a bike in a tight circuit in the mud or snow/ice while often carrying the bike on the shoulder. Is it? A very conservative discipline!
I don't think this was that. He did the Poker run associated with this event.

Triple D Winter Race – Trek Across Dubuque County in the Dead of Winter https://share.google/Dr5aDu8ii6MaMvIZE

He does what looks like a cyclocross with 3 teammates in an annual relay. Most completed circuits by the team in [whatever the time was].

That is not a cyclocross race. It's more like an MTB Enduro event.

When are cyclocross riders going to switch to flat bars?
The most conservative cycling sport! So: Never.
Or are drops the only thing making it a different sport? 🤣
Cyclocross CX is probably the only cycling sport where you need to jump the bike on and off and run with the bike :) Usually, the cyclocross riders carry their bikes on their shoulders. I doubt Charge you could do that with the Haibike or Levo :) Cyclocross involves circuits for very tight cornering. These can take the shape of a spiral.

Don't confuse CX and XC. Cross Country is another discipline: lightweight bikes are ridden off-road but not necessarily in the mountains. No need for extreme downhill in the XC.

I saw this on a ride today. The bench is made from old bikes.

Clearly you don't sell bikes or organize races for a living.

I suggest you apply for a position with the UCI and be sure to ask these types of questions during your interview.
