@Jeremy McCreary, You are right. The change in length of days does stall out at the solstices. But it is happening if imperceptibly. The cross overs are at the equinoxes.
Yeah, I guess some folks got injured-- and a TRUCK was damaged or swept away-- in a parking lot in Ventura. We have giant winter waves right now. The Mavericks contest is on. Imagine one gallon of water falling off a 15 foot ladder on to your head. Now scale that.
Do you get temps like that regularly? That's like Arctic stuff.Unless it warms up here significantly, I won’t be riding today or for that matter the entire week. At least the sun will be shining most of the time. I'll wait and see if the afternoon forecast comes to fruition.

As it has been unseasonably mild over the last few weeks, I guess that it’s only fair to say that change was inevitable. I’m not throwing in the towel just yet but it will take some doing to get me out when the wind chill is this extreme. I simply can’t bear the thought of being confined that long. Hope that you have better luck.Yes. Big dip in temps coming here too. -19 by Friday. I bought some new, lined, wind proof pants I’m trying today. I don’t have studs, so have to be careful.
The coldest months of the year are Jan/Feb when temps can dip as low as -30 to -40C. Thankfully, those periods are short and the average daytime temps usually range between -5 to -15 C. Depending where in the province one resides the average mean can vary. We generally are a few degrees colder than our fair capital to the north or Calgary to the south which experiences more warming trends as a result of the Chinook winds. Being situated in a river valley where the air tends to pool likely has some bearing as why we experience slightly colder winters here in Central AB.Do you get temps like that regularly? And that's why I arrived in FL today rather than staying in Moline.7 to 12 inches of snow called for in Illinois this week. I’ll likely drive or work from home the first day or two and then bike later in the week to enjoy the snow!
I hope you took your bike with you!And that's why I arrived in FL today rather than staying in Moline.
