Caught a super bug a few days ago that has laid me out flat. Old age and me will never be good friends that's for sure. The only saving grace has been being alert enough from time to time in order to catch up with this thread although of course I'd rather be out riding. Such lovely weather I'm missing at this time.

Anyway, for those reminiscing about the TV series 'Heartbeat' and all things Yorkshire here are a few pictures to warm the cockles of your hearts.

Very nice Deeps. Heartbeat used to on the TV, Sunday evening. As soon as the signature tune started playing, for me that was the end of the weekend. Steve was correct in saying "Was like slow car crash" I called it Mogodhon for the masses. It was though strangely addictive. Perhaps by the end of Sunday a stupor had set in? Locating the remote, was too much effort? The waterfall pic, reminded me of another watery setting? We had exercises on the spot where Bridge Over River Kwai was filmed (Sri Lanka) Just like in the film, we also made the hanging bats take to the sky with, gunshot and ordnance. Also scared hell out of the tourists - Happ, Happ Happy Days.

Cloudy but over 50F today, time for a ride along the Erie Canal towpath on the north side of the Mohawk River near the Hudson. The main, paved bike path that is part of the cross-state route is across on the south side of the river... this is a very well tended gravel ride, this section being about 10 miles long. Lots of work done since last Fall, new signage, the path in very good condition.



Nice little bridge over one of the small bay access points.

A short distance along Riverview Road itself. This is a dangerous area, and a cyclist was killed on this road several years ago by an idiot going about 80 mph around a blind corner in a 30 mph zone. Sadly, we now have a more evolved class of idiot who is even more hazardous, what with the lack of shoulders and said idiots looking at the river in those occasional moments where they are not actually texting.

The excellent and strangely toll-free (this is New York, after all, and EVERYTHING is taxed and tolled) Adirondack Northway, over the Mohawk heading for the High Peaks, the Canadian border and Montreal.

No wonder gravel bikes are getting so popular around here!

The sad ending to the ride when my bike spontaneously once again (for the fourth time in less than two years) suffered the dreaded and often fatal Bosch failure to power up. Faced with a 15 mile ride into an 18 mph headwind on a dead Bosch system - and the drag that entails - I was rescued by my wife, and the bike is now at the LBS awaiting a call to Trek Monday. Sadly, I no longer trust this bike after it has been pronounced fit to go three prior times. I have plans to do the Erie Canal trip again later this Spring, backwards this time from Buffalo east. I don't know what to think about this bike's ability to do so or my willingness to take the chance.

I feel your pain although to be honest have never heard of this Bosch failure to power up you mention. Would you care to elaborate on it a bit more?

Can’t select any level of assist on power up. When you click the button for Eco, it flashes to Eco and then back to Off. Some of the known fixes are clean the battery contacts, clean the contacts on the selector itself, or the Intuvia head.

I’ve had that work and fail on different occasions. This is the third time the bike has been to the shop when I just could not get it to go at all. It’s certainly not a common issue, but it is known and has been written about here many times. Still a massive fan of the Bosch system, but no longer on this bike unless they agree to replace all three pieces... the head, the button pad and the battery. All have failed one or more times on my xm700, over 6000 miles in 22 months.

Man, it’s been windy around here! The other day I did the classic 30 mile trip where the wind turned and I had a headwind both ways. Funny how that never happens with the tailwinds.

Got 105 km in today ! The weather is picking up. 4000km on this bike since I got it on October 28 so that is about 500 miles a month through Winter. I hope with luck to be able to maintain this pace all year. Pic taken at UBC main mail facing North . Both of my kids grad photos were proudly taken here!

500 mile per month is what I did August - October so well done Steve covering that distance in winter.

I bought a second battery and carry it in that top bar bag. The bike is limited by law here to 30 kmh, so it takes over 4 hours for me to get that distance, mostly on Turbo. If I used only one battery I would have to use eco + off and it would take over 8 hours for sure.

Hang my bike from the Park Tool stand the same way although the purist say it should be hung from the saddle post.

My first ride this month did not happen until March 19 as I was recovering from a car door in the quad on Feb 23. I took delivery on a new bike on March 18 and spent the day customizing it. The whole time doing the work, I was wondering if I would be able to ride. I did a brief test ride late in the day and to my surprise, it was painless and boded well for the next day when I rode 23 miles. As of yesterday, March 30, I have ridden 359 miles in the past 12 days. In the past two days, I am feeling back to my old level of power and endurance. It is good to be back.

I had the pleasure of meeting and riding with Chris @gadgetnut on Friday. We rode the Centennial Trail in Snohomish County, Washington, a delight rails to trails. Chris took this photo on the bridge across the Stilliguamish River just coming into Arlington.

Steve, No damage to the 2018 Homage Rohloff HS. Nancy is riding it now. I was feeling guilty about riding such a comfortable and safe bike and felt she deserved the same. It also helps that we both have the HS version so we can pace each other more evenly.

I am actually living in Bellingham , Washington now. The winter here was dryer than normal but colder than normal in February. The second half of March has been glorious.

I woke to sunshine and light winds so I made the most of it and had a truly epic trip today 104 miles with almost 7000ft of climbing and I didn't even need to clean the bike, this can't be Scotland All the way to Moscow today (photographic evidence included ) The Scottish Moscow is a little smaller than its Russian counterpart, blink and you will miss it My total for 2019 is now 959 miles, I would never have thought I would have covered this distance so early in the year but I'm not complaining I don't think I will have any trouble sleeping tonight...

r. Great ride and post as eveHow many of those 104 miles were ridden without any electrical assist? I know your battery is not big enough to last for that distance. You keep posting these epic rides through stunning countryside with glorious weather. Whatever happened to the "gloom in the glomen"? Nice to see climate change benefiting someone somewhere. Your rides are a perfect chamber of commerce advert.
