Rad City3 Pedal Clinking

I’m not sure how to describe this but here goes:
When coasting in any PAS level, mostly lower gears, I’m experiencing a delay from the time I apply pressure to the pedal until the bike responds to that pressure.
It makes a sound similar to a bike shoe cleat locking into the binding as I begin the stroke. It’s as if I’m chasing the cadence or something.
I’m not describing this very well but hoping someone can interpret my jibberish.
Seems most noticeable at lower speeds as well.
Is this a characteristic of a Direct Drive Hub? Annoying to say the least.
Newbie here-just trying to get it right

I have had my RadCity ST3 for a few months. I have noticed that after a period of coasting, if I resume peddling hard there will sometimes be a clank when it mechanically re-engages. If I don't peddle as hard it does not clank.

The slower peddling can allow the cadence sensor to engage the hub motor before the mechanical engagement happens, but your DD hub should be virtually silent. My tire noise is way more than the hub motor.

Do you still get the sound in PAS 0? That would help identify if it was mechanical.

I am not sure if my clanking is normal, but it has been there on my bike.

The hub is silent but you are describing the clank I'm experiencing as well. I believe it is present even in PAS 0, but I will check to be sure. It feels that when I resume peddling from a coast that I'm trying to play catch up to the actual engagement. The clanking occurs at time of pedal pressure, briefly. If I then stop pedaling and coast again, the same thing repeats itself once I begin peddling again. This probably sounds stupid but it feels like what you'd experience if several teeth were missing from the sprocket- nobody home. Nothing-Nada. Then, engagement and away we go! Another analogy is imagine you're pedaling along and you back pedal for a moment and then resume pedaling. That void you feel momentarily, thats what it feels like with a little clunk or clank thrown in. Thanks for the food for thought. I'll keep seeking.
Who knows!
My Ride1Up doesn't do it but that's another story.
