Our Rides in Words, Photos & Videos

End of the summer rain…

Pine Mountain Road, Borallon

Borallon, Queensland
When I ride this way in a few months' time the grass will be dry and the farmers' dam will be dry, but it will be perfect riding weather.

Slime would be fine. I wonder whether any of Schwalbe tyres rated Protection Level 7 could withstand that staple?
I just couldn’t believe how perfectly that staple went straight into that tire! Otherwise it probably wouldn’t have even stuck. It seems to have patched well, but then I thought the last one was a good patch too! This time I roughed up the tube a bit more beforehand.

How does it feel to pedal a fat bike without electric assistance?

No laughing. You are at least trying. I only wonder whether a fat bike is necessary for your rides. Yes you love exploring sands, I understand that. Except of sand riding, wouldn't a manufactured e-MTB on say 2.6" tyres be more practical for you?
Stop being sensible :) , Im the 'what is that your riding' guy.
Seriously though, my friends suspension fattie is like riding a hovercraft.

Now dont laugh...yes you at the back.
Started building the suspension fattie and Im in full botch mode.
Bbshd will fit behind the bottom bracket, going to strengthen the frame as it wasnt designed for a powerful mid drive.
Just some odd forks till the 120mm travel ones arrive.
It was originally going to be a hub drive, but I change my mind every 5 mins.
Learnt a lot about the drive by taking it off the old bike with pliers and two hammers.
I have every confidence it will snap in two on the first ride. :)

Watch it, the BBSHD will want to torque around till its in front of the bottom bracket and against the downtube. I would also cover it in that location from mud, water and sand.

Hey Stefan, well with a tailwind it's wonderful, headwind, hmm, not so much :) those 5.05" full knobbies sure don't help any! Most of the Farley is carbon fiber, it weighs 10.4 kg. It goes anywhere! I usually run with 8 - 10 lbs air pressure. You can hear me coming a mile away on the road 😂

Back on the trusty old Giant CRS 1.0 Hybrid, first ride since September 2018! I've had it for over 12 years and it has never let me down, I even managed to cover 120 miles on it and crashed head on into a kid on a mountain bike 50 yards from home! 🤣 I had to pick a day with a 20mph headwind but at least it was dry, I felt like I was going backwards for the first 10 miles!

I'm not going to lie, this climb up to here hurt;) but the descent sure was fun!:D

It felt so alien after riding my e bike for such a long time but after a few miles it started to feel more like normal, I might get brave and attempt a 50 miler on Sunday! My last ride on it before this was a 58 miler so hopefully I am still strong enough! The strangest thing is lifting it, it feels like a feather compared to my e bike!;) 584 miles now covered this month, hoping to take it over 600 on Friday if my legs have recovered!:p The rim brakes take a bit of getting used to again after having disc brakes for so long, they are fine in the dry though!

Looks like you only lost about 4 mph average speed with a manual vs electric bike. Impressive.

Gee, I thought *I* rode some bad trails. Definitely a case for fat tires.
That was an abandoned jeep road I used to get to a remote trailhead I'd never been to before and part of some other more ridiculous technical climbs and descents. Since then I found a better route. I won't be back...

Could never travel that route with any type of bicycle!
Near or in the Sonora Desert?
Tucson area?
You just posted; north across from where I live by 40 miles in Chandler.
