Our Rides in Words, Photos & Videos

we went on a ride the portland peddle paluza. happens once a year. first time we got to ride in it. it was 97 degrees out and I had already ridden 20 miles on my commute. well this added another 20 miles but it was fun and there was a s*it ton of people hundreds rode on all kinds of bikes. it was hard to to take pics since we were pretty much riding the whole time at 6.5 mph. we zig zagged all over the place and ended up going right by my shop that I left a couple of hours ago. I thought we were the only ones on a tandem but saw another one towards the end.

That certainly looked like a lot of fun! Can't wait for the charity rides to start up again. Me and the brothers always do the MS150 couple times a year.

The Banff Legacy Trail is a paved cycling/pedestrian roadway that runs through some of the most scenic areas within the confines of this picturesque national park. Cycling in either direction (Canmore <-> Banff) offers great vistas regardless. My wife and I have ridden the Trail before and on this Monday morning, my sister and BIL from Calgary decided that they would like to join us. We decided instead to opt for an even more scenic route by riding underneath the Trans Canada Highway to the other side via an underpass and cycle the Lake Minnewanka Loop which would include several stops along the way. We met up at the Canmore Visitors Center and rode the Legacy Trail from there.

The view even where we stopped for a morning dose of coffee was pretty sweet.

My sister rode her Vado 4 and both my wife and I saddled up on our Creos. My BIL rode my Trance E as he was the only one in the group without a power assisted ride. We stopped at Cascade Ponds for a family photo.

Cascade Ponds – A wonderful place to stop for lunch and take in the surroundings.

Our next stopover was Johnson Lake. It's only a 2km ride off from the main loop and a makes a worthy side trip. A nice place for a day paddle or casual stroll.

Two Jack Lake – This small lake brings back childhood memories when my dad used to take us here on family outings/camping. It’s a fry cry from what it used to look like as there were fewer amenities back then.

Lake Minnewanka – Our final stop before pushing off on the return leg back to towards Canmore.

Considering that it was a weekday, the traffic along the scenic loop was pleasantly light and of relative minor concern on this day. :)

Wow, what majestic views!

One more of the ol' girl, my brother had been keeping it in his garage, (I completely forgot about it!) but his wife wanted to convert the garage into another bedroom, so he had to clean out the garage for the renovation and gave it back.
Tightened a few nuts and bolts, lubed it up, pumped up the tires and away I went. It's amazing how well it aged, given the fact that it hadn't been ridden in 8 years, the Rockhopper is a quality built bike, especially considering the hydraulic brakes, disc rotors, that were cutting age back then, thanks Specialized...

quite a respectable max speed for being elderly 🥰

How can anyone ride past a grass tree? (My Specialized Levo-riding friend was probably muttering, yet again, about 'that darn Homage' parked at the side of the trail!)

* I tested myself by typing Xanthorrhoea out before checking the spelling! 10/10

Below are some of the grass trees in our garden: it's is a rainy day — valid excuse for staying home? — so I just opened the window, very briefly, and clicked!

So jealous of you folks riding out west! I miss being in the mountains a great deal!
Still, there is beauty in the Midwest…

c'mon Steve - a few more details about the "where" in case you BC folks let us Albertans across the line - o.k. I seem to get across the line more than I would admit - but , what an amazing province for outdoor recreation especially biking . . .

man this week has been crazy 40 mile rides for three days running and the day before a 30 mile ride. this is this week so far. My butt is worn out.
nothing exciting besides the paloza ride, it has been 95 the last two days so riding is cooler.
Steve, would you "follow" me on Strava? My handle is Stefan Mikeš Mikulski. (There are too many of Steve Knight on Strava to identify you...)

Loving all the photos of open views - mountains, oceans, plains, cities. All that beautiful scenery is breathtaking.

My rides take place in tunnels of green.

The world begins and ends at the edges of the road. Whatever lies beyond is hidden in the darkness a few feet inside the deep greenery. It's a rather unique experience. Very serene. Almost too much so.

20 relaxing local miles the other day with virtually all of it in a walled tunnel of greenery with just a scattering of teasing openings to see there is actually a sky above, and once or twice the tunnel giving way to open a window beyond a few yards to the mountains in the not-too-distant distance.

I need to have myself ready for a 60 mile charity ride coming up in 2 weeks, and doing a very poor job of it at the moment.

@Prairie Dog I didn't want your video to end, that was truly spectacular!😍 Perfect for the Creo!👍

So much for the nice forecast today, I woke to rain!
It was a wonderful way to spend a day with family and I look forward to similar outings this summer. Your photo submissions are always a pleasure to view and I’m envious that you can ride to such great settings. It’s a 2 ½ hour drive to the mountains from here which makes for a long day.

As for rain, it would be a welcoming sight to the parched gardens here.
