Just one problem: I was heading home! (No turning back.)
Put it in Turbo and unlock the delimiter David ...they can run 40kmh! What a great expression on the face of that Bull. " Not another darn Ebiker...this will be my third goring this week"

Then file them in the round filing cabinet.

Lining tubeless tyres is against the whole idea! Why to line them? To increase their weight or making them unrepairable? TL tyres:
  • Allow riding with very low inflation for great traction when needed (snow, sand)
  • Are "snake-bite" intrinsically safe (no inner tube)
  • Are lightweight (ditto)
  • In case of puncture, the sealant has the chance to stop the air leak
  • In case of puncture sealant cannot seal, the repair is done with a simple tool, with the wheel on the bike (no need to remove the wheel)
Tannus Armour is for tubed tyres only.

I know that but who cares about a few grams of weight on an Ebike? Tannus inserts also allow for very low inflation ,no snakebites, AND in case of puncture ( which is substantially less likely ) can be ridden in limpmode!

Steve... Ever ridden tubeless? Removed front wheel for transport? Are your car tyres lined?

Slowly but surely trail conditions degrade a bit more each day the mercury rises. I set out Thursday at 9:30 am when it was still -3C and found the single tracks were becoming less welcoming for riding on studs. However, there were still promising signs along the way that put an occasional grin on my face which meant yet another delay in swapping over to knobby tires.

My ride yesterday morning included a short visit to Heritage Ranch then it was off once again to the Pines where I rode some enjoyable sections of double track and then completed the section on a more technical note at the trail below. I still needed to be on my toes as the ground conditions were constantly changing.

I swung by Riverbend for a peep and this is where I really noticed where the recent double-digit temps made an impact. What were once snow-covered hills are now largely exposed sections of grass entering the hilly southern side of the Ring. Only higher up or the forest covered sections were still adequate for studded tires. I’m afraid to say that season is officially over for the XC skiers. :(

Further up the hill, evidence of hard pack sections of snow were nice to see.

Unfortunately, there were also patches of ice covering large portions of the trail created as a result of the constant thaw and freeze process. Glad that I chose to ride in the opposite direction on this morning.

Down at the lower trail near the exit of the XC section of the Ring, there was still snow but, once again, also plenty of ice which resulted in an impromptu dismount.
IMG_20210318_1121274.jpgIMG_20210318_1125001.jpg
As I approached the end of the northern perimeter of the Ring, I came across a series of pools which not only were covered with icy sheets but the bottoms were as well.

@prariedog, that blue is stunning against the snow! Can’t imagine a better looking color for a bike.... 😊🚴‍♀️

@Anna – Thanks, I'm rather fond of the color myself. :D More importantly, the Trance has truly surpassed any expectations that I had of it in the field and I'll be left with the difficult task of dividing time between it and my e-road bike this summer.

Yesterday's ride and more field testing of Johnny Watts.

My local hill (Nose Hill Park) is undergoing it's yearly melt early this year, and pretty well most areas are now bare and dry. But there was mud, snow and Ice to be found if you went looking, and I did,
Something I added to my bike was one of those clever Origami style mud flaps that slide under your saddle and stop some of the crap getting on your butt and back.
It helped a bit, but certainly not as good as a mudhugger or similar.

Additional feedback on Johnny Watts. Absolutely no problems at all with handling and grip on dry conditions.
But, to no one's surprise i would think, things degrade in the mud. But, for milder trails, not too bad. They tended to clog a bit, but in one section on an uphill that was muddy, they did dig in and bite after a bit of wheel spin.

Based on my personal skills and comfort, if I were headed off to technical trails and expected mostly muddy conditions, I would strongly consider putting bigger knobbies back on. If it was a going to be mix, I would have to think about it.

Not unhappy in the least with their performance.
I actually feel more secure in the dry conditions, especially on paved or really hard packed surfaces.

Back to the ride - did a mix of dry trails, muddy trails and some "other".

At one point I had a 19% downhill that I had to be careful with, as if I overshot the intersecting trail, I was going for a swim. I rode down it very carefully and basically skidded down with seat dropped down and rear brake on full lock. Thankfully I maneuvered down safely - here's a shot looking up from the bottom. I should have taken a shot the other direction from where I was standing, but I think you get the drift.
This was just another route to a location I come to all the time and this area is one of my faves on the park.

Beautiful day, visited with friends who were in their backyard while babysitting their grand children (they back onto the park) as well as my brother (who does as well). These lots weren't available when I built my home a few blocks away back in 92.

On the way home, while sitting at a traffic light, another good friend honked his horn at me and I signalled I'd race him to his place as it was on the way home.
He beat me but only because I guessed wrong and headed for his garage, and he had gone to the front in his cul-de-sac. We agreed to go to the driving range the next day (today), and see if I could swing a club or not.

I'm happy to say that I can manufacture a reasonable facsimile of my normal swing albeit a little shorter than normal.
Considering it was first swings of the year, and before I had my "pain management" treatment on my torn rotator cuff, I was over the moon with the results.

As to the shoulder treatment this afternoon, it's probably not a good thing that when the doctor is preparing to inject me, and looks at x-rays and ultrasound report, and says" Oh my" before she starts...
Freezing is still in - and I'm typically pain free until I try to sleep, so the golf outing's impact will be determined in about 7 hours...

Top up to previous post.
I'm happy to say that Strava have finally fixed their Samsung Smartwatch App!

I can now run Strata on the watch, and get all the stuff I was getting on my phone + heartrate data, as well.
So I'll run the Giant RideControl on the phone to get real time cadence and speed (plus battery and range).

I don't normally plan routes and follow them when riding locally - but I best get on that if I'm going to head out of town.
I may need to check out Alltrails as I want to check out the Bragg Creek area this year.

Hi friends!
I hoped for a Saturday metric century only yesterday. Woke up to see fresh snowfall :) So I looked up a GPX for a past event (in which I didn't participate as I chose Graveloza instead). The ride plan is called "Kabacki Gravel/MTB". If I need to ride in snow, let it be something rather short, no spare battery (just a backpack) and let's ride in mixed terrain!
I will of course report, and am taking a pocket camera with me.

42 km planned, 0-1 C, partly sunny, reasonable northerly wind.

Safe travels, Stefan. :)

At the furthest point of the ride (Coominya; 35km on map), I spied a small group of presumably retired (8:05am on a Friday!) bikers. A waved greeting.

An hour later we met up in the park at Lowood and, after patronising the local coffee shop (post #642; right click to open in new tab and not lose this page), rode back to Fernvale together (62km on map). Although they had serious eMTBs — Trek Rail, Specialized Levo, Giant Trance — they made an effort to look after me. "Come along with us next week. No one ever gets left behind… " I think I'll take up the offer but will have to figure out how to use Messenger in order to keep in touch.

Brisbane Valley Rail Trail

Fortunately for me, it takes just two minutes from home to get onto the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail — 161 km of gravel-riding escapism if one goes the full distance (and the same on the way back!). Yes, this is the same trail that was blocked by the old bull featured on the previous page (post #861; 65km on map). The trail doesn't lack variety!

Note the iPhone-being-charged icon (from Bosch battery via Kiox).
