Our Rides in Words, Photos & Videos

Anna I was only thinking to only use the spray after the beast has bitten. At that point you will no longer be riding. But you may be able to get it to let go and save yourself from repeated bites. Even on the flat you cannot outrun a large dog (even with a de-limiter) ,unless you see him coming from a very long way off. I had to get the bike up to around 35- 40 kmh before the the most recent chasing dog finally let go of my saddlebag.
Loose dogs are illegal most everywhere. Especially biters. This is a matter for the local police. And if any dog bit me on public right of way I would sue in a heartbeat.

Yesterday's Pathways adventures.

A friend of mine, Brad, wanted to go for an e-bike ride (on my spare bike) so @LouLouLePew and us went for a pathway run.
My old bike, a BionX powered Electra Townie, is great on pathways, but not on the current state of affairs on trails (mud and slush in too many places).

We had a few mechanical issues, and at location X, I noticed my rear tire was low and hadn't packed my normal maintenance gear (what a doofus). I'd been reorganizing everything and took the wrong pack.
As it was, I rode it home, trying to keep my weight forward and avoiding any big bumps. Lois and Brad took the opportunity to have a quick lunch, and I was back with them in 10 minutes or so, and got to grab a few extra fires.

At location Y, we stopped and had a quick dram of Irish, just so we were prepped for St Patrick's day today.

As you can see, lot's of retracing on the pathways - I usually use those paths in a loop. For various reasons, we chose to stay on the same bits for a lot of it, as Louis' Explore's electrical was acting up again.
But we did stop at Brad's for a few minutes, as we weren't too far away from our chosen route.
That's the southward dip into MacEwan Glen about halfway through.

It gave us a chance to hydrate as well as see if we could figure out Louis' issues, which we did not.
However, I tested how tight his battery fit in the frame, and it's extremely loose compared to my Fathom.

Note in the second photo that some idiot placed his beverage on the ground and managed to spill some...

Wasn't too bad of a day, nowhere as warm as Sunday, but still pleasant at ~ +8C

Johnny Watts performed admirably once back at a decent pressure - and my tube patch must not have been as good as it needed to be.
Tire is down to 15 psi again in 20 hours - time for more investigation and/or a replacement tube.
I may, after all, go tubeless if the JW supports that configuration.

Update:
It isn't looking like they are rated "Tubeless Tomorrow" per their website, so I'll let others experiment. ;)

Rain, rain, rain …
It just won't ease up, so I've been housebound this week. Why go out just to get wet?

Here is a memory of what it was back in the old days. Yes, I know I should have included a bit of the cycleway but recalling blue skies streaked with clouds that could not prove a threat to my never-get-wet policy seemed more important!

If you strain your eyes, you might see the Karragarra Island ferry, in the centre of the passage, approaching the mainland.

Anna...years ago on my acoustic I’d climb a medium hill to predictably find stationed on on a porch 4-5 medium to large dogs who‘d harass me. Finally I jumped off my bike and chased them to the porch where I left a nasty note along with phone #. Animals don’t see a human on a bike but rather a strange slow moving contraption. Off the bike they reverted to friendly dogs. I have had the pleasure of splashing dog-off on another malefactor though with wind, control etc. though the circumstances have to be favorable

Smart.... I’ll take it along with me. Evidently, many problems now due the increased population moving here from the city. 😕🚴‍♀️

@David Berry If my policy was "never get wet" that would mean "never go outside". But I stayed in the last two days. My front yard is under 3 or 4 inches of water now, and I live on the biggest hill in town...

Memories …
With rain ruling out cycling this week, I have had to content myself with relaxing on the Adriatic coast: first in assisting Commissario Guido Brunetti (in Donna Leon's audio book Transient Desires) in his investigations into human trafficking and then in following the Tirreno–Adriatico bike race (Milano–Sanremo, all 299 km of it, follows on Saturday).

In the absence of current ride photos, here is one that missed out earlier (spring rather than autumn)…

On the far side of the house is Cabbage Tree Creek where prawn trawlers are moored. In the years before radar, phones, radios and all that stuff, the lookout tower allowed the captain's family to watch for his return from Moreton Bay… or so the story goes. I can't help wondering whether that is a trawler yacht rather than a workboat that is moored behind the house.

My new rear mudguard arrived yesterday and it sure was easy fitting it this time, I didn't enjoy fitting it 3 years ago! ;) Of course with weather like this it wasn't needed today, for once I beat @David Berry on the weather front!:D It wasn't as warm as it looks though but 10C is more than welcome at this time of year!

You can tell from the flat water at my local loch that the winds were light today, always a bonus around these parts!

I really had such a great ride in perfect conditions, I loved every minute and every mile of it!😁 There is nothing to beat a bike when the weather plays ball, especially a wonderful e bike! Life isn't so good at the moment so this was just the tonic I needed to raise my spirits, hopefully with warmer weather and restrictions easing life will improve in the next month or so!
