It seems that all of David's snowdrifts had melted away by the time he got someone to take his pic. 🤣

A tunnel by the sea …

Tunnel Tree, Redcliffe

Moreton Bay Cycleway, Redcliffe, QLD
How long this situation will last, is anyone's guess. The Moreton Bay Cycleway – pedestrians outnumber us! – goes straight through a tree that twenty years ago was on the inland side of the trail. Over the years it has toppled over to form this weird tunnel. Love it!

It's official. Operation "Get ReadyToRide Ready To Reduce" has begun. Time to start shedding the dreaded "Covid 15" all in the NorthEast (and Midwest, and West, and Southwest, and South, and...oh, heck, let's just say everyone in the entire US) have packed on with the enforced boredom this winter. Snow is gone here (we're just going to ignore any white we see on the Blue Ridge)...

the gravel roads await (speed restrictions notwithstanding)...

and there is nothing to deter us from getting the miles in and underway ("God willing and the creek don't rise" as the old Southern saying goes.)

The 50°f (10°c) late afternoon temp was tempting, the bike charged, tires pumped, and an hour snatched from the jaws of responsibility to irresponsibly say "bye" to everything adult in lieu of a blissful escape on the bike to take some pictures, gather some miles on the bike odometer, and lose some pounds doing so ...commenced. A relaxing solo "Me, Myself, and My Bike" 13.2m (21.2km) loop through the quiet countryside with toe-tapping music blasting in my ear, invigoratingly chilly breezes filling my lungs to capacity, and crunchy, damp gravel being both crunchy and damp and wet and potholed under my tires.

It. Was. So. Much. Fun.

Got back home sated, a bit chilled (temps had started to plummet while I was out and I was dressed for a Fahrenheit rise, not a reduction) and (I'm positive) at least a pound or two lighter weight-wise. Grabbed my camera, along with that opened bag of potato chips, a couple of cookies, and, oh yeah, that left over half candybar in the fridge, plus a big ol' glass of juice (no wine - too many calories) and sat down to run through the photos for the best shots of the first leg of my "Ride To Reduce The Covid-15 To Covid-0 In 30 Days".

Can't wait to see those winter pounds melt away with my planned daily rides now that winter is in retreat.

Yup, it is gonna be great.

Yesterday’s ride today took me to one of my favorite winter haunts, the Riverbend Rec Area where I played around on the hills and trails. There was still plenty of snow so I made good use of my time out there. I also took advantage of the below freezing temperatures which made for superb ground conditions.

The main entry into the area is this footbridge over the river. The recent warm weather created slushy conditions but then freezing temperatures overnight made access somewhat tricky.

Footage of yesterday's ride around Riverbend. :)

Nice...smiles through gritted teeth as envy strangles me.

Took the bike up to my favourite hill, now the snow has gone and attempted a straight up climb to the summit via a path on the steep side.
I kinda misjudged how much two days of sun could dry out a winters worth of wet and it was pretty boggy, but I made it with only a few short pushes and its all down to the plucky little chinese motor which carried my fat ass up terrain that no idiot would try to take a bicycle up.
God it was hard...really hard and the video sounds like someone with one lung breathing through a soggy straw.
Walkers came over to offer their amazement that I made it and for a closer look at what a pillock looks like, I let the tyre down to about 3psi and developed a weird squeaking noise from my lungs which may require investigating by a doctor with experience of old men ..clinging..youth..syndrome.

Ive went to bed like a 90yr old man and slept 12 hours, I was in level 9 assist and it still nearly killed me.
It was glorious though to reach the top and turnaround to admire the feat , a strange man and machine glory standing atop the wild terrain; eye of the tiger playing in my head.
Bit poetic, but deserved.
I'll post a quick vid soon.

We've had non-stop rain! Which made cycling on the mountain trails impossible (130mm of rain overnight for example) or at least a repeat of the ride from a couple of weeks ago which was not on my TODO. So I decided to stick to the main roads and go to a little seaside village called Valla, that I hadn't visited before. A friend of mine had raved about the coffeeshops there, so why not, right?

Started much later than anticipated, so I had to "bath myself" in 50+ sunscreen (that's one of the things that living in Australia teaches you, every time you go out in the sun, cover your exposed skin in good sunscreen) and set myself to go and visit Valla.

The ride there was quite uneventful, no kangaroos, koalas or snakes on the roads, which was a bit of a bummer, as I wanted to see something however getting to Valla was very gratifying! What a stunning little town! I was running a bit late, so decided to head back to have lunch with the family, otherwise I would have tried the cafés ... next time I suppose.\

This is the second part of the snow and ice ride on the Druid Hill Park ride couple days ago. Today's ride was a pleasant one, no fuss, no muss. The beach volleyball area is in sad shape. Ride On fellow EBR's 🥳

Avery short vid which doesnt suggest the height of this bleedin thing, dont laugh at my drone mod, it was an attempt to cure jello, but made it a 1000X worse.
I do love the dobby, though , it's in the air 30 seconds from my pocket, just doesnt have a good enough image for the vids.
I silenced the vid because the breathing might be heard by a physician.
