Cataract operation a success; now for the dentures …

Junkyard Buick next to the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail

Oh dearie me, the insidious rigours of growing old!

I think almost everyone else passes the old Buick, and a few dozens of its kind, because they are hidden in the bush; however, it rests exactly where my Ride with GPS happily chirps to let me know that I'm ten kilometres from home.

That’s considered “good bones” by many car restorers these days! Missing the doors of course…and don’t we all miss the Doors?

I caught a break with the weather again, it was supposed to rain most of the day but when I woke it was dry and the rain clouds were way in the distance! I actually got quite a bit of sun which is always a bonus, you can see from this photo how lucky I was! ;) Although it was tempting to head down this awesome descent I gave it a miss today and took the road a little further on where I hit 44mph, its a much straighter road with only a slight curve!

Not a bad view from up there!

A little nearer home this quarry used to be great for a swim when we used to get hot summers, wouldn't be stupid enough to attempt it now!🤣

It was such a great ride once again, I decided to take my rain gear this time which wasn't needed...after getting soaked the last time I wasn't taking any chances!;) Still no sign of the rain yet, typical rubbish forecasting! We have thunderstorms arriving the next 2 days and Sunday isn't looking the best either so I will rest my legs for now and hope the weather improves soon!

My husband keeps threatening to get an old pickup truck for a lawn ornament. I saw this beauty at a local car dealer.

The colors of the rust and the blue and green are more intense than the photos show. I thought it would look cool filled with flowers by the mailbox. I asked them how much they wanted for it. He said, "The owner might part with it for $9,000." I said, that's too expensive a flower pot for me, thanks anyway."

Looks like a fairly rare Dodge with a great patina. Lots of work but a good beginning if one is into restored Dodge trucks! Seems like everything's there and the glass even looks pretty good!

The prices on these old 'rust buckets' have realy sky rocketed! I think we boomers are trying to restore a bit of our youth through these old cars...

I've got my eye on a WWII Ford Jeep....

Closer to home.

Yesterday’s ride was relatively complacent as we stuck close to home avoiding the smoke that was clearly present on our last outing. We rode a loop that would take us from Red Deer out to the surrounding rural areas where rolling farm and parkland dominate. We passed by the small community of Joffre, the town of Blackfalds and would eventually make our way home along the Trans Canada Trail.

Oil and gas have close ties to the local economy but agriculture will always be a vital industry in the province and also supports the sustainability of many rural communities. Nova Cor, a major player in the plastics industry can be seen in the background. The largest producer of polyethylene in Canada occupies 900 acres of land. Quite a contrast in the farmland that surrounds it.

Images such as these remind me of my childhood as my father would often take us for rides in the countryside on weekends.

Hey Tim, What's the latest on your local fire situation? Worried for you and yours.

Still here. Take a look at the Fire Season thread for more,

Smoky here. Not the bear, but the atmosphere. Last week was terrible so I called a friend who lives in a different climate and asked if I could become a climate refugee and camp there. The answer was a YES and an offer of 30 amp power and water hookups! I took off. Here is my camp and the trailer was quite level, although it looks off.

Most of my riding was up to the house and back, but I did take off on a ride one morning to see an area where I'd worked. It looked quite nice.

I had those roads to myself.

Now I'm back home and the smoke is moving in. Again. Bah. This is looking towards where there are pretty peaks. Really. They are there.

Looks like I'd better clean the lens.

This Boomer from Da Bronx did not have cars or trucks - well, subway CAR, maybe! ;)

A brief video of yesterday’s ride.

Where do you have the video camera mounted? Chest? I'd be moving my head too much!

I pretty much use the chest harness exclusively. The stabilization on these newer cameras is incredibly well thought out. No gimbal required. Panning while hand held requires that the ultra stabilization feature is disabled. Not doing so results in jerky movements across the plane. I’ve been guilty of this on numerous occasions. For extending the camera’s capabilities, I do have a 3-way extension stick that I occasionally use when I’m on the bike but that would only occur at times when there’s no traffic around.

I just finished making the Bathtub bike electric with a 750W torque sensing mid-drive and took it for a test ride. You could fill the tub with ice to sell beer! The owner lives on an 11 degree slope in Berkeley, CA. and carries two five-year-olds. The hub and brakes needed lots of work. It is 2.6M long and there is no way to get it in a work stand.

It looks like a nightmare to ride, but it would hold enough beer for a weekend...maybe.

I've got the DJI Osmo Action. I've had it mounted on my handlebars. Hiking, I've done it handheld.

You can see the image stabilization in the next video. Brake levers rattling and shaking while the roadway images are pretty smooth.
