Nyon '21 new install, weird problems.

Upgraded my bike to a Nyon'21 unit, running latest display firmware and latest Android app. I took the bike for a couple of runs today, first short run, it tracked correctly and shows in the app with the route and assistance data, the other (longer) ride shows no data at all... What's going on? Is this a common problem?

It was also doing this quite alot this afternoon, but seems to have magically fixed itself (there way always internet connection, everything else on my phone was working just fine)

it does not always upload right away. usually if you turn it off then back on it will fully sync. it will seldom fully sinc if you just stop.

What am I turning on and off, the Nyon? Is that a full power off? Press and hold?
just push the power button then turn it back on. then the ride will have ended and the whole thing will sync. after a bit I don't worry about it the next time i ride it will sync when I turn it on. its a bit wierd how rides are displayed. its different on your phone then on the webpage too.

I struggled with Bluetooth syncing. It would work flawlessly at times, then have periods of repeated failures. I finally just gave up on it. At the end of my ride, I sync via wifi, either at home or with my phone configured as a wifi hotspot. That always works.

I haven’t seen this mentioned elsewhere, but if I don't reset my trip data, any new rides show up as segments of the previous ride, which I hate. And if I reset my trip data before syncing, I lose my data.

It drives me nuts to be struggling with technology, while I'm out for a ride in the countryside. I want my technology to disappear.

So, for me, the Nyon is standalone until I'm done my ride. Then I sync via wifi and clear the Nyon trip data. It makes for a much less stressful ride. I've heavily customized my Nyon screens, so I see everything I care about on the Nyon.

I think if you jsut let it sync when it does life will be easier. you get segments every time the nyon turns off. but it will get it all synced usually on the next ride. I have it it reset every day and I will still get the downloads the reset just clears your total riding thats displayed not what s recorded. it may or may not sync with bluetooth that day but the next day by the time I am a=t work it has all synced. I don't worry too much about it I have a screen that shows all my info after a ride and I Use that.

I want to make sure I understand you. Are you saying that if I set the Nyon to clear the trip data every night, I won’t lose any data that has yet to he downloaded? It will still be stored in the Nyon, just not visible to me? I didn't think that was my experience, but I might be wrong.

right its just the data displayed on the nyon. I ride 2 to 6 times a day on my commute. every time the nyon turns off its a separate ride. but the nyon displays them all as one ride. so if I want to see how many watts I put out on my ride home verses the ride to work I either have to wait for it to sync or reset the ride data. then it will show just the average on that ride. but the rides will record all the same. but often the nyon wont sync till I ride the next day. even the old nyon does this. not always but often. it will say synced but its not. even turning it off and back on and letting it sync may or may not get all the info for that day. but the next day it has all synced. usually it will sync while on the next ride. but f I want to know the average watts I put out and I am not on the nyon I have to look on the ebike connect webpage the app does not show average watts.

I'm still perplexed. When I go out for a ride on any given day, starting with a cleared Nyon, my ride will show up as a single ride, that is divided into multiple segments or sub-rides, if I have taken a break that was long enough for the Nyon to turn off. If I fail to reset my data, the next ride becomes a segment of the previous ride. This is problematic as I download my data to Strava.

I've attached a screenshot from eBike connect that shows this. The first ‘ride’ is actually two rides, when I forgot to reset the data. I remembered to reset trip data on the second one.

If I want clean ride data to import into strava, I need to be diligent about resetting the trip data. What I didn't understand was that I could do an automatic daily reset and not lose data. Am I missing something?

I have my Nyon 21 set to automatically reset the trip recording to zero at the beginning of each day.

After my final ride for the day (when I arrive home) the Nyon automatically syncs via wifi.

Later, in Bosch E Connect (web version) I usually export the day's rides as one GPX file, containing segments for each ride. However if you select a single ride of those listed for the day one can export that.

While I always Export to GPX, Export to Strava is an option.

Does that solve your problem?

Cheers

Thank you. I guess my only point of concern is whether data is lost (i.e., won't transmit to eBike Connect) if it is cleared before a successful sync. fooferfoggie says it isn’t. I thought it was. I’ll run a test and see. As they say, Trust but confirm.

Understood. Am interested to hear the results of your test.

Yes its a pain for strava. my big announce on the nyon. it really needs a end ride button. if you upload the group ride then it at least gives you a total. I had my garmin before I had the nyon and I use that to upload my ride info to strava its a lot easier. plus I can turn off the garmin and it will pickup where I left off all in one ride.

Curiosity got the better of me and so I went for a ride to test the effect of resetting the trip meter before syncing to EBC.

I rode 4km and reset trip meter. Continued riding for another 5km, reset the trip meter and restarted the Nyon 21. Rode another 5.7km reaching home where the Nyon 21 automatically re-synced via wifi. All three "trips" were listed on EBC. As expected, they were listed separately rather than as segments.

This confirms fooferdoggie's experience.
