Will be interesting to see what Juiced does with this beyond the Scorpion, and whether Juiced brings it to other bikes, I expect so. Same for the mag spoke design. Also on other brands hopefully

Why did he not just use the existing Mac motors? Cost?

Did people get a lot of broken spokes with the RCS? I'm wondering if the fat tires reduced spoke breakage.

No broken spokes yet on our RCS.

Really looking forward to July if the delivery date holds on the HyperScorp for my wife, ordered in early Feb. :) I'm not totally stoked about the design (aesthetics) of the new cast wheels. To my eye they would have looked better if all ribs had been facing the same direction instead of alternating. But all in all something I can live with.

That's a great question, Asher. The RCS came out after the switch to Sapim spokes, which helped immensely with the CCS spoke breakage. But would fat tires make even more difference? I hope some RCS owners might speak up.

The mag wheels was one of the draws for the Scorpion, for me anyway. Now, I've only broken 2 spokes on the CCS. Both of them were fairly recently. After 4000+ miles, with a heavy rider, I'm sure they have gotten worn where the fit into the flange. In no way do I fault the spokes or the assembly. But with the mag wheels, this won't even be a minor concern.

I was wondering because if wider tires reduced spoke breakage, that might induce Juiced to spec larger CCS tires. A locked out suspension probably doesn't help either.

You see a continuum with ebikes, of low to high weight/power/design speed/energy/tire volume. The CCS is bit of an odd duck with high everything except tire volume.

Electrek just posted a review of the HyperScorpion with a custom 1000W Bafang motor and a claimed top speed of 30+ mph.

As Juiced Bikes CEO and Founder Tora Harris explained:
We wanted a motor with high torque, class 3+ speed on the 20″ form factor, cassettes gearing, but with retro-modern looks. This type of motor didn’t exist when we started development on the Hyper, so we partnered with Bafang to produce this benchmark-setting motor. It has taken a full year to get to this point and it’s very exciting to finally see the mass-produced units. We are calling the new motor RetroBlade, a Juiced Bikes exclusive!
In a recent video shared by Tora, we can see the Bafang team running a dyno test of the motor. Based on the data displayed on the dyno, it appears that the motor is delivering a constant 1,037 W of power while running at 52.60 V and 24.54 A. That means it is being supplied with 1290 W of battery power, resulting in a total system efficiency of just over 80%.

Not bad for a high power e-bike motor. The Juiced RetroBlade motor uses a cassette instead of a simpler bicycle freewheel, which allows the use of higher quality shifters and derailleurs, improving the ruggedness of the drivetrain. It was also necessary to use a cassette for compatibility with the torque sensor used in the HyperScorpion.

The opposite side of the motor houses the disc brake mounts and a side exit for the hub motor’s phase wires. The phase wires use higher gauge wire than a typical Bafang motor and also employ a new locking connector rated for higher current. Tora also demonstrated a test run with the latest version of the HyperScorpion using the new Juiced RetroBlade motor. While climbing a slight incline, Tora hit a top speed of 33.4 mph (53.75 km/h).
