Hi-Vis colors?

Up until several months ago we rode with whatever color our comfortable clothes displayed — often very dark to black.

Then our riding group adopted hi-vis T-shirts. Soon thereafter we added hi-vis jackets, some got hi-vis helmets, etc. Now it has become more common to see hi-vis among area bikers everywhere than dark/dull.

Now, we never ride without hi-vis clothing. Is that too weird? A real benefit is vehicles very rarely DON’T stop for us at intersections.

Are you riding with hi-vis clothing?

I wear a neon green shirt, neon green helmet and if it is chilly, yeah you guessed it, a neon green jacket. I also occasionally strap on the neon velcro straps near my ankles if I ride at night. And plenty of lights...

I ride in a reflective high visibility reflective vest, high vis reflective ankle straps, usually a bright pink yellow or green shirt

Tons of lights

IMO you cannot have too much high viz. stuff or too many lights

I am a retired land surveyor. I spent my fair share of time at work playing in traffic. I see the importance of wearing hi vis clothing. You can be very low visibility and a good driver will see you and not hit you. It the poor and inattentive drivers that maybe they see your bright clothing and don’t hit you.

Yeah, too many people texting and not paying attention while driving. It's getting worse. Amazed and bewildered at all the drivers that have their phones in their laps or hands while driving and paying more attn to the phone than the driving process...

For me it depends on what I am doing. If I am just going to a café and won't be in traffic sometimes, then no. I am crazy for my high visibility gloves. People really pay attention to those. They are florescent orange with yellow accents and 3M reflective bits. If I am going on a big ride and will be with cars then yes, including a high vis helmet, shirt or vest. I was just thinking that high vis shorts would be very silly, but it is a thing! They must be for someone filling road cracks with hot tar in Arizona in August.

I have a blaze orange vest that I wear while bicycling, ATV riding and horseback riding.

I know there has been research on which is more effective, the hi-visibility lime green or the blaze orange, so I often wear both.

I ordered a Cybolite Hypershot 350 taillight this morning.

I also will be getting an Olight FB-1 Universal Flashlight Bike Mount for Flashlight delivered today.

I will use a Streamlight Stinger LED in the strobe mode with that.

All my cycling clothes for the cold season are Hi-Vis as I am not taking any chances during the season of bad visibility. I wear more subdued colours in the warm season but at least my helmet needs to be Hi-Vis.

My fav jacket was a Pearl Izumi black bicycling jacket. Now I ride with the same PI jacket in Hi-Vis.

My wife and I lead a lot of group rides. We find it much easier and safer to keep track of riders when we can see/count bright yellow jerseys easily in our mirrors. And, per traffic, the group in hi-vis is safer.

I know that some bike headlights and flashlights have a strobe mode, do any of them vary the pattern on their own?

I often ride together with ,my brother, and he always wears a Hi-Vis jacket. Once, I was following him at a distance, and he rode into the shadow of a forest. I would have lost him from the sight if not his Hi-Vis jacket!

My bike wears hi-viz, too. I also managed to convince my traditionally black riding husband that he was completely effing invisible and now he wears neon green, too. It's like this: fewer young people are driving, thus boomers are a larger proportion of the drivers out there on the road. Boomers are losing their eyesight, getting cataracts, and just generally have slower reflexes than they used to. Wearing hi-viz is only sensible.

My wife and I rode from Mendota Heights into Saint Paul MN this morning, which was mostly paved bike trail. Some other bicyclists had headlight on and they really helped me notice them more quickly. The ones with flashing headlight were even more noticeable. On this ride, I was less concerned about taillights, but I did have mine on flash and some others had their headlights on, too.

With regards to high-visibility clothing, I still wear my blaze orange vest and a blaze orange baseball cap that has a Fenix E-LITE mini on the back with a flashing red light. I am now in the marked for a new blaze orange vest because mine is well worn and sun faded. Does anybody here know of any particular brand(s) of high-visibility clothing that they like? Mine is Walls brand and I think it is considered ANSI Type 2. One of the features that I really like is the pockets on the vest. In fact, the inside pocket works particularly well for holding my Google Pixel 6 on bike, ATV and horseback rides.

my wife and I really like Pearl Izumi Barrier Convertible jackets. Great fit and sleeves zip away for a vest.

Got this thru Amazon. $39.99. Great for nights. VERY bright as well. Note it's one size, runs a bit small.

Rome, if your'e asking about my LED vest, no. It's a knock-off of something on Amazon but the quality is pretty good, not great. It is bright when the LEDs are on solid or flashing, the reflective strips are generous and the battery is easy to charge. Negatives. Fits on the small side. Tangles easy when putting it on. Velcro needs to be reversed, if that makes sense. The stiff grip side catches on the vented mesh. I would buy again if needed though.
