- I'm fortunate in having a dual-battery system (1kWh; 36 V) on the R&M Homage. My Trek Powerfly 5 has a single 500 Wh battery.
- None of my riding could be classified as mountain biking; it's mostly on country roads (often gravel), bike paths and a rail trail that tends to be jarringly rough in places. For this type of riding, the ebike equivalent of a solid luxury 4x4 SUV is perfect.
- I tend to leave the Homage's Bosch Performance Line CX motor in eMTB mode which gives me a nominal range of 150 km.
- It's quite reasonable to double my range (as ebike shop dealers tend to do!) providing one is prepared to use Eco or Tour assist levels.
- It's also possible to use up the battery even quicker than I do! This happened last month because I forgot to recharge and then rode a particularly hilly course and ran out of time (hence Turbo to the rescue).

With the weather set to be warmer than the Mediterranean in the UK this Bank Holiday Weekend, everyman Car, Dog and Wife where heading out to the East coast today. Making crossing a couple of main roads difficult. What an early Spring we are having, was surprised to see fields of Rape Seed already in flower and smelling strongly in the morning sun. After having a heavy week on the bike, I just pushed today's ride too far. However welcome relief came when 15 miles from home parked in a lay by, was a Burger Van. Now normally been a vegetarian, I would have passed on by, however a mug of tea plus egg sandwich gave me that additional spur I needed. Would not recommend the Belly Buster option though, if you had far to cycle?

Moreton Bay Fig …
Ride : 101 km / 2019 : 5333 km
- Moreton Bay Fig (Ficus macrophylla).
- This specimen is, appropriately, in Brisbane's Moreton Bay suburb of Shorncliffe.
- Photo at 69.8 km where there are different out/return routes (intersection of Rainbow St & Palm Ave).
Choose 'Satellite' view on map. - For those who are interested in such details, I used just under 50% of the battery (36 V; 1 kWh) on this 101 km ride (all in eMTB mode).
- There was a fresh easterly wind off the bay – definitely a day for an ebike!

Brisbane Valley Rail Trail near Harlin …
The BVRT, at 161 km, is Australia's longest rail trail. The rail trail is a two-minute ride from our house, so I ride it four or five times every week; however, where I join is at the 7 km trail marker. Today's ride was from Harlin (100 km) to Benarkin (138 km), a long way from home – more than double the distance by car than on the bike!

- Riese & Müller Homage GX Rohloff in my idea of its preferred environment.
- About 200 km inland from Brisbane.
- I knew I was 'a long way from anywhere' when my iPhone displayed 'No Service' (sign of our times!).

Howard Smith Wharves & Story Bridge, Brisbane …
There must be hundreds (thousands?) of dockside developments around the world. This is especially the case where freighters can no longer travel upstream to the heart of a city.
This is part of Brisbane's redevelopment of the Central Wharves (renamed Howard Smith Wharves in recognition of the shipping company that leased them). Both the Story Bridge and the wharves were constructed during the late 1930s.
The 'rusty steel' tower is a new lift from the bikeway/footpath to a clifftop road.
There must be hundreds (thousands?) of dockside developments around the world. This is especially the case where freighters can no longer travel upstream to the heart of a city.

Submariners Heritage Trail, New Farm, Brisbane River …
The Submariners Heritage Trail is located on the Brisbane River at New Farm and forms part of Brisbane's extensive riverside pedestrian and cycle trail.
The US Navy's Task Force 42/72 was located here during World War 2. Five of the US submarines operating from Brisbane were lost with all hands (commemorative plaques beyond my ebike).

Location: 31 km on map (same ride as previous post).

I previously mentioned the Moreton Bay Cycleway (here it is!) and the public facilities beside it (here they are!).
Photo is at the turnaround point for this ride – 49.9 km if you wish to find it on the map. Bribie Island is on the horizon; the entrance to Moreton Bay is further east (our right).
It was midday when I stopped here, so the shadows were cast directly south.
