What Do You Do During The Lockdown?

Getting the calluses back on my fingers with all these guitars around here. Highly enjoyable. The last few days itā€™s been working out Steve Lukatherā€™s solo from ā€Rosannaā€. This is going to have to last a good whole to get that right!
Are you taking requests? If so please send us your video of the Guitbox solo from "My Old School" by Steely Dan.

I will strive to be like you...Maybe you can speak to my significant other?
It all depends on what e-bikes you already have and what your purpose is.

I was very lucky to buy (at a very good price) the 2017 Vado 5.0 which is equivalent to today's Vado 6.0. I might buy a Riese & Mueller but these are heavy and the Homage HS is equipped with an older Bosch motor. I might buy Allant+ 9.9s. Apart from being a carbon bike it is still equipped with a noisy Bosch motor (new generation) and it would not improve the quality of my rides. My needs do neither involve road-cycling nor mountain biking. So what next e-bike should I buy? šŸ¤£

Add to it upgrading and maintaining the two e-bikes I already own is costly itself...

Well, other than wearing a mask and goggles when I go to the store, I am:
  1. Reviewing patent applications.
  2. Putting away skis
  3. Working on the bike
  4. When I have gone on long adventures, I usually make a list of things that I will bring on the next adventure and also things that I definitely won't bring next time. So I am making those lists for the next pandemic.
  5. Playing with the dogs
  6. Riding my bike
  7. If it rains I will set things on fire and shoot video of them. Also, shoot video of birds and bulldozers
  8. On a related note, I need to move the two cords of firewood I did not burn away from the house
  9. Fix my dishwasher if I can find the parts
  10. Put winter clothes away and bring summer clothes out

9 out of 10 aint bad but the dishwasher is likely impossible due to planned obsolesence.

Are you under lockdown, @Mr. Coffee? Do they allow cycling?

Washington (the state) is under a shelter-in-place order. But outdoor activities such as hiking, bicycling, and walking your dogs are allowed and in fact encouraged.

That is what 3-D printers are for.

We don't have any lock down here in Las Vegas other than gyms and some casino/ restaurants closing down. Most big casinos are still open but I don't know how busy they are.
Went for a ride Sunday as it was 68 F here. Decided it's a good time to finish a jet I have been working on. Another week and it will be ready to fly. Our flying fields still have people showing up and everyone is exercising social distancing. For those that don't recognize what jet this is, it's a BVM and will do 180 to 200 mph ready to fly. Flying RC planes is my other hobby when not running ebikes :)

developing exercise list to replace going to the gym 6 days a week, dreaming about next ebike, riding current ebike,
reading more. Today I worked on excel spreadsheet to track my rides. I enter starting and ending voltage, distance and time traveled. It computes speed and watt hours per mile. And sure enough, the faster I go, the more watt hours I use...Goal is to keep reducing watt hour per mile.
I have a similar spreadsheet without voltage but tracking % battery before and after ride. I have only risen 240 km but I am starting to get a feel for battery range.

Work from home. And when not working I've been getting out for leisurely neighborhood rides. Mostly 7-12 miles at a time. Today was 10 miles on the Tern GSD to collect firewood from a local park and then 10 more miles on the Allant 9.9s of just riding around admiring the empty streets. Although I have nowhere to go and nothing to carry, I still ride the Allant with my panniers and locks because maybe I just want to feel like we'll be going back to work soon. Also time to start yard work and spring cleanup of gardens.

Not locked down yet, but not much open either. A silver lining: for the northern hemisphere, thank goodness this is happening in the spring not in the fall and entering the long dark days of winter.

but undertaking the usual spring projects: cycling, cleaning up the workshop, cycling, yard work, cycling, trips to the liquor store, not playing tennis, cycling, not meeting with the boys for beer nā€™burgers, cycling, NetFlix, birdwatching.

Retired, so likely not affected near as much as a lot of people - who have my total sympathy. I've developed a few hobbies that take up a lot of my time (radio control airplanes, and a real niche, working on mid size (40-90hp) Honda outboard motors that I buy and sell for mad money. I love bringing them back from the dead!).

Lately, I've taken up cooking. Nothing REAL fancy, but spending the majority of an afternoon cooking something new, and just hoping for the best, has been working out well enough for me to try it again! All afternoon lasagna was a smash hit today! Been doing something like that at least once a week, and it gives the wife a kitchen break she's grateful for!

No long distance stuff, but we're getting out 3-4 times a week for bike rides. We use routes we've developed using side streets with little traffic and a few single track paths.

Here in Fl. state and local authorities have recently closed all the parks and bike trails. Closing the bike trails seems counter intuitive to me. The reason for closing the bike trails? Because they're afraid somebody might get hurt and require a hospital bed they might need for a virus patient! Where is the logic with that kind of thinking? Classic case of knee jerk over reaction it seems to me like. -Al

Some of us have already been put on self-quarantine by Governments. That may mean you are not allowed to set off for your recreational rides for, say, two weeks or more. For example, the Poland's Executive Order does not mention any possibility to be outside for anything else but work or for "activities of vital importance" such as grocery or medicament shopping. On the other hand, the Government explained physical activity such as bicycle riding alone or in couples is occasionally allowed. Whatever, it is safer to stay at home.

Meaning boredom. Luckily, the outstanding orders for bicycle related purchases are reaching me. I will have a lot of fun with upgrading my e-bikes. The Schwalbe Marathon e-Plus will be the first. These are for my Lovelec.

Made in Indonesia?! Why not in Germany?

If you are in the position of being under lockdown or self-quarantined, what do you plan to do to kill boredom? Not necessarily the bike related activities. Please also post photos if you feel such a need!
nice! i have these bad boys on my

Hopefully, I can replace the tyres on my Lovelec e-bike on Thursday. What makes the things hopeless, I don't own a work-stand, and that bike has the hub motor. It is the most convenient to turn the bike upside down and stand it on the bars and the saddle but I need to remove the mirrors and the display first...

When I had a display, I had it mounted on 2 struts I built out of sheet metal cut out of a box fan shell. Held it up 3" above the handlebar center. Then I could unloosen two screws/nuts and swing the thing down where It would bump into me if I was riding. But I wasn't riding I was turning the bike upside down to change the tube (or tire). Flat Might happen at any time out on the road. And does every year or two. Ebikeling.com Display read 30% high on speed, was 5 bars when the motor would quit, and speed was always zero when I was running 30 mph downhill with the throttle off. So I abandoned it. Throttle from the $189 DD motor has green, yellow, red LED's for >50 v, 47 v, 44 v.

Stuck on the opposite coast from my bike for the foreseeable future. Just got Stay At Home order from City and county this afternoon. We can still go out to exercise... I'm walking, since I'm bike-less. Puttering around our small yard, and managing the neighborhood text group to coordinate store runs and other assistance. At least the weather is warm, and there's not as much Covid, per capita, as there is back home in the PNW. I should have bought another bike to keep on the east coast!

I'm interested how the Schwalbe Marathon e-Plus with Michelin Protek Max tubes would perform. I had the last flat only several years ago and that was with cheap city Schwalbe tyres and some generic tubes. The quality of most of the roads in the neighbourhood is surprisingly good.

I regret I haven't kept the factory Styrofoam transport protector for the display...

No?! You mean you have travelled to the East Coast and cannot return home? Oh my.
Perhaps you could really buy or at least rent an e-bike while staying in the Eastern U.S.?
