Watt Wagons new display - colors and UI layout feedback

We have tested the new display and it seems to hold up well. We are still going to put it through more tests (and cold weather and rain), but i want to get feedback on the layouts and colors to make it even better.
Goal
1. Better information layout (2 screens for people who want to prioritize different info)
2. Better color palette.

Content available

1. PAS
2. Speed
3. Power (wattage)
4. Trip information, ODO
5. USB charging
6. walk mode indicator
7. Time
8. Battery indicator
9. Possible placeholders (checking to see if we can push these to the display)
   1. Motor Temp
   2. RPM / cadence etc (needs sensors that are not there yet)
   3. Indicative Wh/mile (might not be accurate though, since it is a calc)
10. Anything else I missed and we would like to see.

Output
1. Screen layout with this information
2. Colors / font sizes. Use Arial Narrow for font size style, and Display area is 86mm tall, 51mm wide (~3.3"x2")

Yes battery percentage is there. Yes metric / imperial display is there.

Expected range is an interesting one. MIght be a calc but we can add to the list.

On my current bike allant 7s it has the cheap Purian display, I have 5 bars for battery level , almost useless but it has a decent miles left screen I use since I deplete almost every ride, usually 2-4 miles left when is says 0 after 3 batteries, 100 miles or so, no walking yet

I'll throw in my vote for a calculated number of miles available as an option on the display.

We will ship bikes with the DPC 18 for the moment. Riders can upgrade to this new display for $7 (shipping charge) and send back the older DPC-18.

I expect this to be shipping mid-late Q2 - so this is not an immediate thing.

I have to admit that I'm not a fan of fancy, colorful screens. I much prefer something simple that offers a lot of information, like the Bosch Nyon.

Yeah I’d opt for higher information density as well (and on a smaller screen, personally, but I guess a large size opens up some options. That Nyon looks good to me too).

I agree with Deacon. Having way too many different colors on the same screen is distracting and takes away one’s ability to quickly gather the information one needs at a glance. Using different colors for different mode screens is fine, but limit the number of colors on any given screen is preferable.

Also, any graphics that don’t translate into useful data is a waste of real estate. Notice how the Bosch screen is all data; the few icons displayed represent useful information. They aren’t there just to “pretty up” the display.

Make sure font sizes for relevant data are sufficiently large for easy viewing. This is important for us riders with less than perfect eyesight and for anyone who doesn’t want to hunt for info on the screen.

"Motor Temp" is an interesting one, if you see it heating up when Ebiking in the hot summer sun, you know to dial it back a bit, maybe get of level 5 and go to level 2.

The motor has an automatic 110 cutoff... we havent reached that in our experience with 2300W versions (even in high summer). However there are al;ways edge cases.

With 3000W+ you will get there in 45 mins or so

I find it a better fit on the handlebar for a large display, and better protected.

Hmm I checked with the mfg and unfortunate we are not able to do that

My opinion having a Juiced bike currently and looking at various others, I prefer the smaller displays integrated with buttons then say have a app that displays more details if wanted since I like to have my phone mounted center on the handle bar. The extreme of this is Super73's minimal display and all advanced info and setting and firmware updates are through app.

Biktrix does the Bafang 500c which looks to display quite a bit of info while being very compact.

EggRider is another that appeals to me.

My Juiced display is pretty primitive non color and has no bluetooth app support but it displays all pertinent info very well, 10 segment battery display and voltage and wattage, it also has an advanced screen that shows Whr/mi amp, amp/hr, watt/hr and controller temp.

Just some food for thought.
