This is an ingenious way of solving problem that most DIY builders encounter.

Some of the bikes come with really good Shimano Saint or XTR brakes but they may not have motor cutoff Higo connectors. You could get Magura MT5e with motor cutoff but you have to purchase the whole assembly and this adds up to the cost.

For those who want to keep the stock brakes, here is a neat solution. "Trip Wire" from Grin tech.
From rim brakes to Mech disc to Hydraulic disc, this is supposed to work with everything.

Can this apply to yamaha or Brose motors?

Bosch, Brose, shimano or Yamaha do not use this motor cutoff because the torque sensor is very precise. It cuts off within milliseconds.
The only bikes I have seen this feature is BULLS Lacuba E45 (brose motor) which just activates the brake light.

I have seen this motor cutoff feature on BH Easy Motion, Stromer, Pedego and Izip models.
 
Magura also makes an inline switch which is pretty cool. I don't know if they're still doing them, but we got a bunch of them a couple of years ago when we were doing more custom builds.

I think those were used in some of the older BionX equipped bikes and when there was no readily available E-brakes.

Then came, Tektro Auriga E-comp, Dorado etc and Magura MT2, MT4, MT5 or MT-Next with built-in switches.

For DIY builders that use BBS-HD etc , HIGO has been very useful.

Pretty slick but unless you have an e brake plug in coming out of your controller it won't work.

Grin Tech's Cycle Analyst V 3.0 has a plug in for one right at the handlebars. The switch activates the regen, which you can set the percentage of through the readout, and cuts the power output at the same time so that if you pedal or hit the throttle while activated the motor won't engage.

Of course this only applies to bikes with Direct Drive hub motors as far as the regen goes. It can be used for short spurts to allow for better shifting on mid drives but as stated the larger suppliers use the software and torque sensor to make things work. Cut outs are popular with the Bafang mid drives as their system is not as refined but there is already a solution for that available.

This will be popular with the DIY crowd I predict and that is Grin's main market. Personally I am going with a button momentary switch that I can activate without even depressing the brake lever, I use brifters btw, which I will have set at the percentage that will slow me down some and be able to use as a drag brake on downhills as I use a DD motor. But if I want to come to a more serious stop I will use my disc brakes to slow me down. I hold no illusions to gaining much energy return from using regen, bicycles are just too light to begin with and not like cars that can restore energy due to their mass. I do predict that it will save on brake pad life though and that will be enough for me.
