These are wonderful pictures Dionigi, but cycling along highway 1 sounds a little hairy.

highway 1 is a rural 2 lane road with a very wide shoulder a very well used road for touring bikes. But you do need to keep an eye in the rear view mirror.

From Santa Cruz to Davenport. The path to Davenport is straight up HWY 1 but on out return we veered off the highway and followed a trail along the cliffs.

It looks unusually green there. Lots of rain this winter?

The rain was endless in February making for limited rides but lush landscapes.
Quite the difference between the NuVinci and dual battery E-14 Rohloff. It’s been a little bit of a learning curve adjusting to the new transmission but it’s increased efficiency is evident. The dual battery with the E-14 is a great touring combo. Yesterday was a good example we decided to do some hill climbing, about a total 2500 feet elevation. Two long climbs with a 10% and 15% grades a total of 32 miles. The Rohloff is a better hill climber never needing to go below gear 3. The CX motor worked well in this situation but I found the e-mtb mode very ineffective and found myself going from tour to turbo. I realize this is not what most feel about e-mtb but for a Nevo that rarely sees a single track it is a mismatch. I plan to have this mode switched to straight sport. You will be in a unique position to compare the E-14 to the manual Rohloff, maybe because the gearbox is new but gear 7 is very noisy.

@Deeps Nice change in your weather, looks like you made good use of the downtime Our weather is looking up also, 54F this coming Sunday and light winds! I just hope they are right because they got it very wrong last week! I purchased some Schwalbe Marathon GT's and fitted them last night, hoping punctures will be a thing of the past...

I might repeat last weeks trip as I really enjoyed the terrain despite the awful weather, it will be awesome if the weather plays ball...I will probably do it in the opposite direction though!

Please post how those Schwalbe Marathons work out for you. I’m thinking of a smaller tires for my Vado 6 but have a couple reservations. It’s a speed pedalec and the roads here are very rough with potholes, etc. so pinch protection counts. But I also like lots of cushion.

Will do, only 1 ride of 70 miles so far and I'm happy with them! I was surprised how grippy they were for first use, so once they are bedded in the grip should improve further! I noticed a big difference in rolling resistance from the Schwalbe Durano Raceguard originals but the Marathons are touring tyres so that's to be expected, I prefer puncture protection over speed these days I did manage 36.5 mph on a downhill so they are ok, I will see how they compare on my local descents where I regurarly hit 40mph+

I was hoping to do 100 miles today but the gusty winds put paid to that, at times it was touching 50mph so I had to choose my route very wisely to avoid dangerous crosswinds! So I managed a metric century which was my 10th ride of the year and I have now covered 591 miles, not a bad average for winter! The winds sure depleted the battery today but they also helped me to hit 41.9mph At one point my average speed was 19.1mph (see photo) but that didn't last long when I hit the headwind, still I finished with an average of 16.8mph which is ok considering my bike is limited to 15.5mph, over 4200 feet of climbing today so I got quite a workout

The Schwalbe Marathons are proving to be a wise investment, I can't fault them so far! It was a very enjoyable ride despite the winds which finally relented on my journey home, only a constant 25mph headwind to contend with One good thing about strong winds is they dry the roads up so I got home with a spotless bike for a change The long range forecast isn't looking too clever and I have a week off work the week after next, I hope they are wrong as they usually are Not as scenic today but that's life...

Thanks Pegasus Its actually closed at the moment, has been for quite some time but a company has taken over it and are currently refurbishing it Its a Wahoo Elemnt Bolt, I bought it over 18 months ago after my Garmin quit! I recommend it, it has worked flawlessly

Agree about the Elemnt Bolt. Use mine more to record a ridden route as opposed to following one where I find it a bit small to read.

I have only used the route facility once, quite recently actually and for the most part it worked really well but I did have a problem with one turning where it told me to turn right and it should have been left so I take back my flawless quote Luckily I had studied the map before I left and I knew it was a left turn, as soon as I turned left it did correct itself and guided me back to my car I get what you mean about the text being small though!

Skipton Rail Trail, Central Vic, Aus. The trail starts at Ballarat and ends at Skipton - about 57km. Some very scenic spots and varied countryside. I usually park the car somewhere part way along the trail and head off from there. Shogun SB200.
