Show us pictures of where you ride your ebikes!

Well, I don't have photographs to show of today's ride scenery -- it was a group ride focused on the mission -- finish the prescribed route without deviation. Lots of on-roads riding, so lots of stop signs, stop lights, etc. I saw parts of my county that I'd never been in before, despite living here (Arlington, VA) for 25 years.
The end result? A rare sighting of the now famous Arlington Duck! (A "Strava Art" route designed by a cyclist I know through the BikeArlington forum.)

After 2 stormy days here, I was glad to wake up to a sunny morning with light winds:) So I decided it was time for my first 100 miler of 2019 and what a very enjoyable ride it was :D The scenery was breathtaking at times, I love this time of year when the weather plays ball :D I had to make sure I had enough juice left in the battery for the last 20 miles which are always tough, I finished with 3% left;) Sorry about the amount of pics, it was hard to discard them:eek: I probably have another 50:p
To do 100 miles I guess you ride a lot of miles without motor assist?
No waterbottles to be seen in pictures. Camelback?
Did you ride all the way to Callander before you got anything to eat?

that duck is such a fanciful, cool thing

Returning from mt buller via the jamieson licola rd -90 km of dirt straight across the great divide. Once we had passed the highest point ( 1500 m ) my daughter got to ride down the range

Hi PDoz. What was the dirt road like? Gravel, rough bluestone etc. Looks like a good thing to do. Well done.

All of the above.... it's technically a 2 wd road, but the northern side isn't as well maintained and sections above the snowline are a bit chunky. I reckon it'd make a fantastic overnight trip - book accomodation in either licola or jamieson so you can recharge ( Jamieson overnight would work best because there are more facilities - pub / cafe etc) . I'd ideally have a back up car for if the weather gets nasty....it was BUCKETING down on saturday!

My daughter was sitting at about 20 k uphill in midrange boost, and between 40-50 k down ( the bike is still 25 k speed limitted) .

Yes indeed, around 30 miles was unassisted! On longer rides I tend to switch the assist off on the outward journey and save the battery for later, having 22 gears and a 32 tooth cog at the back certainly helps when the assist is off! Last August when I did my 152 mile ride the first 70 miles were with no assist at all (as you can see from the profile image the outward trip wasn't too hilly for the most part) and I had a tailwind almost all the way :D So on the way back I had a headwind but a full battery ;) I always take food with me and snack every 20 miles or so and I never leave home without my Camelback!

Interesting way of carrying bikes there PDoz. Mind sharing more info please?

Both the car rack and the trailer behind the bus were made by these guys

(Link Removed - No Longer Exists)

The rack seems expensive, ( nb aus $ ) but it's AWESOME - it carries 5 bikes neatly, takes seconds to load, and held the bikes securely through some interesting driving.

The vertical section can pivot flat for tailgate access ( remove bikes first) , and in the unlikely event you catch a rear wheel on a huge rock, there's just an ocky strap holding it against the lower rail so I suspect the wheel would survive. The bracket at the base has 3 different angles as well as 3 different tongue length options, so it works seamlesly between vehicles ( although apparently the ford ranger towbar has a very short tongue .....I've only just bought the car and am yet to try the rack on it).

Unfortunately my phone is distorting the perspective - the bottom of the rear tyre sits just above towbar height.

Having recently moved I am revisiting some old trails I rode mtb on when I used to live in the area. Got out for a little spring cleaning of a local trail system that hasn't been seeing much use. I got a cordless chainsaw awhile ago for a project and had a backpack that it fit in perfectly. It rode very well on my back and made quick work of the larger blow downs. This system is ripe for expansion and need to get a work party out there soon.

IMG_5445.JPG

I have another trail to tackle in a system close by also that has gotten grown/blown over with some good sized trees and with this tool it will inspire me to get it done. I also carry a folding saw for the smaller stuff. Trail work is an important part of mtb'ing and I have done as much as I can over the years to keep my locals in good shape. I am not into building features though, I just like to keep old trails open for use.

Edit: I forgot to add how easy it is to haul around an e chainsaw with an eBike compared to the days when I used to do the same with a small gas one that always leaked from both orifices on my push bike.....The weight is about the same but with the help of the assist it makes it more doable. Still manages to leak a bit of b+c oil so I keep a rag stuffed in below the drive sprocket, just have to remember to remove it before I hit the go button!

I looked at the weather forecast yesterday and today was looking a bit nasty, with gusty winds and driving rain so I had a look at other parts of Scotland to see if the forecast was better elsewhere! 50 miles south of me was looking more promising so I plotted a route of 70 miles in the Scottish Borders! As always I dressed expecting the worst and that proved to be very wise!

I put my bike in the back of the car and set off for the border town of Peebles and on arriving I was greeted with some nice sunshine, although it was very windy as I expected! I decided to take on the headwind to start with and soon discovered how much it saps the power from the battery, over 50% used up in 30 miles! That included a lot of climbing though, up to almost 1400 feet and of course as I started the climb the sky darkened and the heavens opened, almost at the summit and I was now greeted with hail (that was painful)

The descent at the other side was very welcome and soon I had a tailwind :D The battery was glad of the break ;) The rain was still incessant and now I had some crosswinds to contend with! One big gust sent me close to the edge of the road near the verge and I managed to pick up a puncture :( Luckily while I was fixing it the rain finally abated, the same couldn't be said for the wind which was getting even stronger! Soon I had it behind me again and I was flying along, I hit 39.1 mph on a very slight descent :D

Even despite the weather this was a very enjoyable trip and I can't wait for the better weather to replicate it and I look forward to doing it in the reverse direction which should be a lot of fun also :D I got back to the car with 17% left on the battery, I was worried I might run out of juice today due to the wind! Today was a good wet weather test for the bike and it passed with flying colours, it never skipped a beat :D 459 miles for the year so far, only 3,541 to go :p

Wonderful e-biking landscape!
50% battery for 30miles including a lot of climbing sounds pretty good to me.

Yes I guess so, I'm just used to starting with a tailwind since I got my e bike (the opposite of my non e bike) and it surprised me! I knew I had a lot of climbing still to do on the way back so it was playing on my mind a little but the storm force tailwind (slight exaggeration :p) certainly helped :D

Well done RabbH. It looks like terrific countryside. I love the dry-stone walls. I imagine there are many such walls in the area.

Thank you, it really is and I never take it for granted. There are many dry-stone walls indeed.

This morning I was taking my car out of the garage to go to work and the steering didn't feel right, I had a front wheel puncture! So I managed to pick up a puncture on my bike and my car on the same day...hopefully that's my quota for the year :p

Haven’t been taking many epic rides lately but the sunset bike ride rarely disappoints

30AC0B30-F20A-4D08-8C4C-DF12CFADDA0A.png

Minus tides really expose the darker sand that is the most compact and offers the least resistance.

The ride combines that type of riding with this

That is located on the land in the background of the former pic.
