Wow! I'd like to see the racquet that goes with the set! They are shuttlecocks. They exist as part of the sculpture garden which surrounds the museum.
There is a large grass area in front of the museum.... quite large..... and the shuttlecocks are strewn about the lawn as if waiting to be picked up.
Shuttlecocks – Works – The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art
art.nelson-atkins.org
"The husband and wife team of Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen were commissioned in 1994 to design a sculpture for The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. They responded to the formality of the original neoclassical building and the green expanse of its lawn by imagining the Museum as a badminton net and the lawn as a playing field. The pair designed four birdies or shuttlecocks that were placed as though they had just landed on opposite sides of the net. Each shuttlecock weighs 5,500 pounds, stands nearly 18 feet tall and has a diameter of some 16 feet.'
Nice to see you back in the saddle Dave and it looked like a fine day to be out.FINALLY got the right motor mount bolt/nut on Friday. Had the day off so installed it, lubed chain, inflated tires, and did a test ride. All good! Expecting a torque wrench today to check all bolts later.
Meanwhile yesterday I went for a decent ride to get back in the saddle.
Giddy up...
They finally opened up the main Mud Bay entrance...
If you look closely, you can see a beached boat way out there...
Holy green algae Batman...
Followed the path until getting to King's Links golf course, then turned North on 72nd St...
If you keep going North past Hwy 10 there's a road with a NO ENTRANCE sign, so... of course I did!
You end up going over Hwy 99 and can then head either East (towards home) or West. I chose West in order to have a more substantial ride...
If you're late getting here, do you have to Ketchup?
Rider down! 3 cyclists and two ambulances. I offered assistance (tools or anything) but they said everything was OK...
Stopped at Deas Island Park for some shade and hydration...
Heading East on River Road towards home...
Last challenge after finishing the water was to climb this nasty 14% grade...
Et fini... Not quite 50kms but close enough...
Thanks Art, it was indeed beautiful. Not too hot unlike today where it's pushing 30C.Nice to see you back in the saddle Dave and it looked like a fine day to be out.
