Now that the stay at home restrictions have been lifted, I was finally able to get out and ride over the holiday weekend. I rode 150 miles of the Armstrong and Redbank trails in Western Pennsylvania.

"Signs of the times" were posted everywhere as a reminder to stay safe. As a result, the usual holiday crowds were noticeably absent.



The Spring scenery however didn't disappoint.



The temperature on the trail was 80 F but 20 degrees cooler in the rock cuts.



I rode the Long Point and Climax tunnels for the first time.



It was nice to see progress is being made on the East Brady Tunnel rehab project.



Unfortunately, the Brookville Tunnel has been closed due to a partial collapse.



All in all, the trip was a sureal experience. Most of the people I encountered did wear masks and kept a proper distance. It was an eerie experience though to be the only customer in a 150 room hotel however.

The weather has been unusually cloudy in California recently and it makes for a beautiful sunset ride... last night was spectacular.

If you look closely, you can see the coastal fog rolling over the Bay Area foothills in the distance.

Looks like your KOM, and all of your times, were disqualified on Strava.

Nope... I always change my ride to the Ebike category after every ride.
Let me know if you have found a way to permanently change the settings.

I got to ride in Pebble Beach yesterday. Last day of the lockdown there, which meant no tourist cars!

Pebble Beach is certainly one of the most beautiful places on earth. Love the 3-D video... tell us more about the app.

I am planning to bring my bike down and check out some of the local trails this month... any suggestions? What are you riding?

You have to give it a few seconds for his ride to load and displace the homepage.

You folks at noticing that if you hit the "Play" button (triangle icon), you see a 32x or 64x (actually controllable) 3D view of the ride, with photos I took along the way, right?

And while it's moving, you can drag the viewpoint and zoom level around. Doesn't have 3D buildings, but it's still pretty cool I think.

I am planning to bring my bike down and check out some of the local trails this month... any suggestions? What are you riding?

The App is from a motorsports company in the US called Polaris. It's made for off-roading or snowmobiling. Since it's free to join, however, you can use it with any vehicle, even an eBike. It's got a really good database of trails, but again, for off road, not bicycles. You can plan a route on the web and download it to the app, but it doesn't show true bike trails like RideWithGPS, for instance. I like RideWithGPS because it'll both navigate you with clear directions and record, but the playback doesn't suck up the photos you took along the way, which is a feature I really like.

Most of the good rides down in the Monterey-Carmel area are along the beach. You can ride from downtown Monterey through Pacific Grove, into Pebble Beach, and into Carmel if you want. You can even pop up at the southernmost point of Carmel and take Hwy 1 to Point Lobos, or if you're brave, into Big Sur. The ride subset I posted starts in Pacific Grove, rides along Ocean View and into 17 Mile Drive Pebble Beach, then up into the hills - elevation about 900'. Instead of going up into the hills you can turn right and go into Carmel.

There's also a ride into Carmel Valley, which heads east up into the mountains. That's really pretty, but gets hot in the deep summer months.

Nancy and I got in a great ride yesterday. I finally have my Allant back with a working rear hub and fell in love all over again. What a great, lively and fun bike to ride. 35 miles in tour out in the countryside, stopping by roadside stands for fresh shortbread and local strawberries. Some homemade cookies and lemonade along the way.
