Rohloff Recommendation

I am considering purchase of a fully suspended bike with the Rohloff hub and the E-14 electronic shifter by Rohloff. The advantages has I have been able to tell are as follows:
  1. Full integration with Bosch drive systems
  2. Gear displayed on Boch Nyon or Intuvia Display
  3. Push up or down to change gears
  4. Push and hold goes up or down three gears
  5. Transmission returns to preset low gear when stopping
  6. Momentary (180 millisecond) backing off of motor when shifting
Disadvantages:
  1. Spent battery - No shifting - you are now riding home in one gear
  2. Shifter malfunction - no manual override - again riding home in one gear
I am interested in anyone's thoughts about which is the best way to go. I am really on the fence about this as the advantages are cool but the disadvantages seem to be close to deal killer.

Hey, how's that Nevo doing for you in the meantime? I keep thinking if I am going to get another, that's what I'd want. The heavy duty Nevo with a Rohloff would be about perfect as far as I can tell if you could get one.

Belt breaks...you're walking home (unless you happen to be carrying a spare).
Motor mysteriously dies...you're walking home.
You fall off and the wheel gets tacoed...you're not going anywhere.

Soooo...yeah, stuff could go wrong, but everything carries a risk.

I'm assuming you're looking at another R&M. I can't think of any other manufacturer making a bike with that combination of components.

The Nevo is indeed heavy duty and the GH even more so. It is so robust and beefy yet smooth and seamless with the belt and the Nuvinci. It feels a bit less spry and athletic than my Cube hybrid with the Shimano Diore 11 speed but still gets up and goes with aplomb.

The Nevo has a very vehicle like feel with which I am growing quite comfortable. I've put 500 miles on it in the month and a half since it arrived.

R&M only makes the E-14 shifter available in the Delight Mountain The Mountain would have to be modified somewhat with smoother tires, fenders and a Nyon, of course. It already comes with the Fox Float suspension. I am contemplating an Homage Rohloff HS which would be the other choice, because of the step thru which I have come to appreciate on the Nevo. The Homage would have the manual shift with the rotary dial on the handlebar.

How’s the climbing capability with the Nuvinci?
Dave, it is nearly (but not quite) equal to that of my cube that has a Bosch CX, same battery. The Cube has maybe a 5 or 6% edge from greater transmission efficiency (it has a Diore XT 8000 with an 11 sprocket rear cassette with 11-46 teeth). It is so close that it is clearly worth the slight disadvantage climbing for all the other benefits of the Nuvinci 380 drive.

Well, you can, but I don't know of an e-bike with a Pinion. Certainly a pinion with a hub drive would be an awesome bicycle.

In context, I meant ebikes with a pinion. They're out there but none in the US as best as I can tell. EX:
