Our Rides in Words, Photos & Videos

Rab, you’re closing in on 20,000 miles on that Road E, correct? Quite a team you two make. Your pictures and Dave’s in particular are always great. You ride through beautiful country.

Think you can get 30,000 out of that bucket of bolts before it shakes itself apart? These Giant ebikes are fantastic. By comparison mine is near brand new at 6200 miles in three years, never fails to make me smile.
@RabH is the Giant poster boy of longevity!
Amazing mate!

What a difference a year makes visiting my daughter's new ranch in Northern British Columbia - last year we processed 200 calves ourselves but as new neighbors came to know the family we had more than enough help this year and lots of time for biking and just hanging out with the grandkids. Today's ride followed the ranches namesake "Deep Creek" with a lot of jumping off the bike to forge a trail - often I could barely keep up with the bike in "walk" mode!

Postcards from Liverpool 😊

Liverpool Three Graces, two of them decorated with the mythical Liver Bird on their top. The big tower in the centre is for ventillation of the Queen Mersey Tunnel.

Bit posh that, beans in a little pan.
No black pudding, have I caused that? 🤢

Oh and the domed building is a scaled down version of the original design for the Catholic Cathederal.

Dave Berry, the father of this greatest of all threads and one of the major voices on this whole forum, has gone dark for several weeks now. I know he has other issues in his life and I just hope he’s okay and hasn’t been stolen by Dingos, so to speak. Dave, very best wishes to you out there. It’s always disquieting when active, long term participants go silent around here, especially to us equally old geezers.

Been thinking the same. Unable to PM him as well.

I also noticed David hasn't been around recently, I do hope he is just taking a break!

I managed to grab a short weather window today and enjoyed a great local ride, I had to outrun the rain at one point so I was glad I had the wind behind me at the time! There were heavy showers all around me and when I was heading back home all I could see was a dark sky so I was certain I was going to get soaked! Thankfully my luck was in and I avoided the rain, I didn't even have any wet roads to contend with which was a huge bonus!

I actaully came across a road I hadn't used before and it turned out to be a cracker with loads of ups and downs and lots of twists and turns! I was having a blast on lovely new tarmac when the road suddenly turned to dirt and there were massive potholes full of water, time to turn back! I couldn't believe how it just changed like that, I hope they are going to fix the remainder in the near future...

I didn't take any photos today, I just wanted to enjoy a ride with no distractions today! I have added more of my photos from my recent epic ride though! Recently I reported that my original battery was starting to deteriorate, it was charged to 98% and only ahowing a range of 63 miles! Today it was charged to 86% and it was showing a range of 68 miles, very strange...

It’s finally starting to green up around here and the temperatures have, for the most part, reached their seasonal range and yesterday was no exception.

With a new warrantied motor installed in the Creo, I can now focus on upcoming rides. The bike is whisper quiet now with either PAS on or off. Kudos to the team at The Bike Shop in Calgary for getting it back to me the following day and I’m super stoked to be back in the saddle.

With this in mind, we set out to the countryside and decided that a ride without PAS was in order on such a fine sunny day.

We set out on our intended route from home along Hwy 11 towards the small hamlet of Joffre, AB. We would ultimately bypass the town and instead ride along the Freedom Road where there’s generally less traffic to deal with. Since it was a long weekend, we underestimated the number of vehicles even on the rural range and township roads.

Riding out towards Hwy 11.

GH010127_Moment8.jpg

This is the only river crossing we would have to deal with. There is ample room to ride but with returning holiday traffic it was good to get it out of the way along this narrow two-lane stretch of road. Most drivers are respectful of cyclists but occasionally we encounter lunatics who seem to take pleasure in making our rides a bit too exhilarating. Full size pickups hauling holiday trailers and 18 wheelers are especially difficult to deal with as their longer loads provide less room for them to move over.

After crossing the bridge, the assent up this hill becomes a tad tighter as the shoulder narrows.

I wait for my better half as she crests the top of the hill.

The Freedom Road is an 8km stretch of blacktop that we enjoy riding on as the vehicle count is far lower than traveling the busier 815 on the east side of the NovaCor plant. It’s seemed, at least on this day, that the number of motorcyclists outnumbered cars that passed by us.

This lush green field of crop seedlings is a stark contrast of what lay on the other side of the road. The NovaCor Petrochemical plant has been around since the seventies and is one of the worlds largest global producers of ethylene and polyethylene.

We made a brief stopover at this restful field before turning around for home. @DiggyGun – It was a shame that there wasn’t a picnic table in site where we could enjoy this moment in time.

As we approached the city limits on the return leg, we could hear loud braying coming from the other side of the road. We noticed that a pair of miniature donkeys weren’t being coy about their public display.

Glad I'm not the only person wondering why Dave dropped out of sight. Two days ago I went back to see when was the last time he posted, and by the date (at that point in time) it hadn't been that long ago. Fingers crossed he's just away from his desk for a bit.

I found a road on Google maps that I'd never been on so had to go check it out and yep, it was a road and it was there. The wind came up and I paid homage to weather superiority by using Turbo for the last mile. Once again, I was having to pedal down the last hill due to the wind. Anyway, I think I ended up riding on the ancient highway 97. When body parts get tougher, I'll add another segment of it.

On the return trip, I checked the river level. It's running high but nothing floodish about it.

A white themed pot farm? I have no idea, except it is a pot farm. Maybe this bit is being rested and plastic used to keep weeds out? I do not know.

All the stockade fencing required for pot farming is good for the lumber business.
That was today's ride.

Usually when any ag outfit completely covers the soil like that it is to kill weed seeds. Or with grapes it's to kill even fungus as vineyards are prone to infections. Don't know about pot.

Donkey needs his little feets trimmed.

Thanks for all the posts and photos. Very interesting to see and read all the adventures. Mine is far less exciting. New commute. Been going over the Triboro bridge and into Randall’s island to get into the Bronx. This is the path on Randall’s island and the view from the Triboro.

^I bet your heart quIckens when you get into the Bronx, my does just driving North. I enjoy these write ups from everywhere on the planet…I post as the price of admission to so many exotic, and prosaic, parts of the world. The things you see on your regular rides, the infrastructure, the famous ebike delivery people, other things that might seem mundane, these can all be of interest to say, the rider in Poland (Stefan) who gets tired of drinking obscure ales in picturesque settings.
Welcome

Hey, OKAY. I was born in Bronx Hospital many decades ago. I use to live along Bruckner Blvd (before it became whatever) between the Whitestone Bridge and the Triboro Bridge. PS 93. We use to bike ride out to the Sound or whatever it is at that point and watch the planes at LaGuardia Airport - propeller planes back then!!!!!
