Our Rides in Words, Photos & Videos

Nice! ANY ocean view would definitely be the payoff for me.

I dropped my bike off at the LBS in Calgary yesterday for the new motor replacement and was told it should be ready by today. Unfortunately, I likely won’t be able to make the 150km drive down there until the weekend but considering that it’s miserably cold, wet and windy today makes a great excuse to stay indoors.
Yes, I'm terribly sorry you have to look at all those boring mountains. Sad! ;)

Yup, our mountains got 3 or 4 inches of that white stuff, too. Hope they fixed it.

I hope so too as we are planning our first ride in the Rockies later this month contingent on the ever-changing weather conditions.

I was just looking at google maps at your region and couldn't help but notice what a strange landscape it is, divided into all those blocks, such a relic of colonialism and on such a massive scale. Is it common knowledge what each block measures?

The spouse required I made a video of a photoshoot for her running club, it. was pissing down and even a few lightning strikes.
But I soldiered down and amazingly it cleared up in minutes, so if you want to see forty middle aged women running along a beach in matching tshirts.
Heres your chance..

It is kinda odd at first glance but the quilt work pattern makes practical sense when it comes to identifying vast tracts of land. Each of those blocks is a section of land measuring 640 acres. A township consists of 36 sections of land. Each section is divided into 160-acre quarters (NW, NE, SW, SE) allowing a specific municipality/county to designate legal land descriptions. Each section is further enhanced by intersecting range/township roads. This grid system (ATS) Alberta Township Survey, makes locating property much easier for landowners/developers/farmers etc….

I've got to get back there. Will you be hitting the Banff Hot Springs - always a fun visit.
I haven’t been there for ages so a visit might do us both some good post ride. The Cave & Basin is still free as long as one has a valid annual Discovery Park Pass. Entry to the Upper Hot Springs is now on a first come first serve basis plus the required entry fee.

took my wife out on a birthday ride to Lake Oswego. I wanted to go out in the country for a 40+ mile ride but I was not sure how the roads oare in the middle of the week verses weekends since they are fast and no shoulders. so we did 30 miles. stopped at two donut places (she had a lot of junk food) me I dont get to eat them. got her one a place she has wanted to try for a long time. square donuts this one was a orange cream filled donut. she said it was the best donut she has had. they were grating orange zest at the time. plus chopping up kerrygold butter.
then on the way home another lace she has been wanting to go a place called piece of cake got her a chocolate cupcake. made her a killer burger out of some garlic flatbread I found and air fried some French fries. she likes sweet tarts on a ride but they are a pain to unwrap so I bought her two pounds from amazon. I made her a Mt hood 3d model so she could see what it was like.

You are a good man Foofer! 👍 I actually forgot my wife’s birthday last week which happened to fall on Friday the 13th. I did try and make up by offering to take her out to dinner the next day but all she wanted was a takeout burger from her favorite diner. Go figure.

Now that looked like a fun shoot - after the rain!

After 6 pm on Thursday, when I was just about to relax before my 8-day trip to Britain and Ireland, I got a surprising phone call. My daughter was in the hospital during last Easter and lost her phone there (but not the charger!) Now, the phone was found! Driven by a sense of duty, I hopped into my car. Man it was so boring! I covered all the roads familiar to me from my e-bike rides (even no need for the GPS navigation). Collected the phone and drove to Magda's Social Care Home. What a nice surprise to her during her supper!

Car riding: Warm, comfy, no wind resistance perceived. And how boring it was! I'm sure the car is faster than an e-bike. Still, it felt like ages behind the steering wheel! No fun!

Got up at night. I think I will complete my packing for the journey. Leaving at 8:30 am with a local cab. I'm going to be in touch with you over the next days! Post your rides!

Bringing a lost phone, hero of the day!

Square doughnuts, better use of space in the box I suppose

After some days of crazy winds the weather was looking better this morning, with rain coming in the afternoon I decided to get out early (6am) and go for a long ride! It was still windy but only around 25mph so no problem with a powerful e bike! The last 25 miles were a direct headwind so I was glad I had plenty battery power left and enjoyed assist level 3 on the bigger hills! Last week I had to climb those hills in eco mode as my second battery was dwindling so I was glad I had the small chainring at the front! Sunday is not looking very good so it had to get out for my long ride today so off I set into the early morning sun! My legs were actually feeling good (a few days rest works wonders) after Sundays epic ride!

First picture of the day close to home!

25 miles later I was now in the town of Linlithgow with the sun still shining!

I was now closing in on my destination with 35 miles covered, the 3 bridges over the river Forth!

I'm now on the path over the Forth Road Bridge with the iconic Forth Rail Bridge in full view!

From the bridge you can see the port of Rosyth which is a former Royal Navy dockyard, today there was a nice cruise ship in port! Shame I didn't have a good camera to get a better photo...

This is in the middle of the town of Rosyth, the ducks were enjoying the sun!

I decided to try some of the coastal path at the town of Culross and I was lucky to get it mostly to myself!

The Grangemouth oil refinery is just across the water from the coastal path!

The final bridge of the day, the 86 year old Kincardine Bridge which is showing its age....

I noticed my original battery is now losing some range after 4 years, both of my batteries were charged to 98% and my original was only showing a range of 63 miles! My second battery which was purchased in October 2020 was showing a range of 80 miles! I managed to get 47 miles out of my first battery using mostly eco mode, before switching so i had plenty juice left in my second battery for all the climbing later in the ride!

Not quite the scenery to match last Sundays ride but what a fantastic day that was, its amazing how easy 74 miles seemed after riding 116 miles on Sunday! The weather isn't looking very promising for the next week or so, so I'm not sure when my next ride will be!

@Prairie Dog I'm glad you are getting your bike back so soon, I will look forward to your Rockies ride! I just hope the weather will play ball....
