I rode off to drop off a payment for the electricity I have used. I turned it into a 20 something mile ride. This is The Really Steep Hill but I'm going down it today. It leads into the Public part of town--cops, fire dept., library, city hall and park.

That big long building on the hill is the casino hotel.

I think this might be an old fruit packing shed? Orchards used to be smaller operations and they'd sort and pack their own fruits in similar buildings. I'd have to see the other side for traces of a loading dock structure.

A friend has sent me on a scavenger hunt for a rusty old truck of an age that I am pretty sure I won't find. But this was the rusty vehicle of the day. The sunflowers are past their prime and now we have Lupine and phlox blooming. It was a bit windy today, but not as bad as it has been. It was good to get out on a ride.

My friend use to run the metal drive over in Winthrop/Methow Valley. They got a ton of old wrecks out of the fields and forest.

with the wifes shoulder replacement surgery and now covid I am slow. but things should be pickup. got 650 miles last month. 2400 miles so far this year. a lot more elevation 87,716 though better step it up. hope the wife can start riding tomorrow. we are both still pretty tired.

@kahn was right, too nice of a day to skip riding. Had just enough time after work to ride 19 miles (also 1200 ft of climbing) before dark. Just rode up the recently reopened interurban trail and then meandered back through Brier and Mountlake Terrace with a stop at Lake Ballinger at dusk.

Also, a few non ride pics from this weekend when I wisely chose to take my wife to the rhododendron gardens and bonsai museum for mother's day and our anniversary instead of riding.

About 29 miles and1,200 feet of climbing in a semi-loop from Greenlake Seattle to Edmonds and back.

Today’s outing had me riding the trails once again and it looks like I’ll be spending a fair amount of time doing just that. Not that I don’t object, but the reason behind it has more to do with the fact that my beloved Creo has suffered a bit of a setback with what appears to be a major drive train malady. I’m hoping to hear back from the LBS with some news from the folks at Specialized as to what the next step will be. The shop tech thinks it’s the belt as one of their stores encountered a similar case with another customer. Fingers crossed.

Meanwhile, same fishing hole, different gear. I had an epic day riding my favorite singles and the Gen 3 mullet Levo with its short chain stays performed spectacularly. What a machine! When you hit the corners, you know this bike is built to rip.

@prairedog your photos this year remind me it could be colder today… 35 degrees and the poppies won’t even try to open up but the deer do not seem to mind. Cycling in the cold wind was a challenge today but no snow or mud!

Lovely images Anna! That looks balmy compared to what we faced when driving into Calgary on Monday. Folks there were blanketed with up to 10cm of the white stuff. Thankfully, most of it had melted by the time we arrived in the city.


We were luckier than our friends to the south and only received a light dusting.

We have some epic road rides planned for the upcoming season and even though it’s still early I’m hopeful that whatever the problem is that it can be resolved expeditiously. My wife has been riding solo of late and also looks forward to a quick resolution. I noticed a high-pitched whine coming from the drive train during some routine maintenance. Day trip in Central Otago, NZ.

I have uploaded, to my site, a video presenting photographs with animated path of a day trip I made with friends in 2017.

Semi-arid Central Otago is located in the lower central region of the South Island. The spectacular landscape featured in the video is characterized by barren schist outcrops, contrasting dramatically with the blue/green deep waters of the Clutha River.

Yes, I, too, would whine about that whine. I don't know enough about the internals. I guess I should go on Spec's site and see what makes the engine tick. I did not know there's a BELT in the mix.

Belt? Belt is present in Brose motors but in Mahle? I doubt. It is gears that make the SL 1.1 motor produce its noise. The whining presented by Art might come from bearings.

I didn’t think there was a belt either but then I’m the last person to ask about what makes these things tick. Looking at this diagram, it appears that there isn’t one present unlike other models in Specialized’s fleet. I'm thinking it might also be the drive side bearing which unfortunately would fall under the category of wear and tear.
