As the days become warmer, it’s apparent that morning rides are far more preferable for trail riding. It almost seems like once the clock strikes noon hour, conditions deteriorate to a point where the ground becomes a sludgy mix akin to a 7-Eleven slurpee.

That being said, I’ve also had to take extra precautions when setting out on my am outings.

On many occasions it’s not the trail that one has to worry about but the pathways leading up to them. It’s much easier to ride on smooth ice rather than some of the treacherous stuff that I encountered such as this icy mess just before the Heritage Ranch single.

Even though they were a bit spotty in places, the trails were tame in comparison.

Heading home the melt is apparent.

Just a few days prior to yesterday's ride, I was shocked to see a 1/2 dozen snow machines whizzing by carefree along the local tributary. Looked pretty sketchy to me at the time. o_O

Sandy reminder of the flood…

Brisbane River
Lowood, Queensland

The Brisbane River at Lowood (about an hour's ride from home) is back to its normal level, but the floodplain bears the marks of the recent rains. I think what happened was that the floodgates of the Wivenhoe Dam were opened and a vast quantity of mud and sand and gravel from the bed of the lake was released. I doubt that the farmers will be pleased to have had their green pastures beside the river buried beneath twenty or thirty centimetres of river gravel! Such is life.

Another like that is really 😥

800 Wh of the SL Energy On Board!

+11 C? What clothes to wear for such a warm but not too warm weather? I deserted the office past noon. It would be a deadly sin not to ride during such weather! Vado SL was the ride this time, not without a reason!

My beloved local bike path, running along the small River Raszynka and surrounded by ponds. The path bears a funny name, being "The Stony-Road Race Memorial Bike Path" :D I can only imagine a group of roadies riding that path before it was paved!

A big number of swans lives on these ponds. I haven't seen so many swans in a single place for a very long time!

At Specialized Warsaw. As you can see, an SL Range Extender Battery weighs just under one kilogram. It comes with a water-bottle cage and an elastic rubber band to fix the Range Extender Cable plug in place. I bought as many as two range extenders. Therefore, the "installed charge" for my Vado SL has risen to 800 Wh. Now, I can zoom together with gravel cyclists on the lightweight e-bike at will!

For your information: A single Range Extender costs an equivalent of US$387 right now here.

Just after the batteries' purchase, I rode to the nearby META ("The Finish Line") bar. Here, my favourite Zhur, or Sour Rye Soup.

Pancake filled with mushroom and ham. The total meal cost including tea was US$11 (If you are interested).

At the wretched Ursynów Tunnel of the Southern Beltway of Warsaw. We've been waiting for that tunnel for a too long time! (It is operating now).

I stopped using the bathroom scales :) Hopefully, I didn't get too many extra kilograms during the Winter! :D

I felt it was a slow ride, and I came back tired. Need more workout!

I forgot to tell you the maximum ambient temperature on the ride was +16 C, and the minimum was +7 C!
Love the look of the water bottle ish range extender.Reminds me of @PedalUma his custom kit builds.

Only the Uma's certainly don't weigh 2.2 lbs (and cannot be taken into a backpack easily). Removing the Range Extender from an SL e-bike still lets you ride on the internal battery.
Compare the look. They look like bikes compared to a sharktank style battery. . I wish we could swap them for fully charged batteries at any shop like people (in the USA, at least) do with propane tanks.

Uma's contraptions are indeed bikes. Not e-bikes :D Not designed or built by him. (You'll hear no single word more about it from me!)

Didn’t get for a ride till this afternoon as was waiting for a delivery to arrive this morning.

We decided to go to Millennium Park at the Forest Centre at Marston Moretaine, Bedfordshire. We chose to go there as not too far and wanted somewhere that wasn’t too long in case the tyre went down from my puncture on Tuesday. Good news though, it behaved well and no further issues.

This was an old clay pit for the local brickworks, which closed down in 2008 because of the new Clean Air Regulations and, is now an environmental park with lakes. Nice to see some of the old brick making machinery and equipment on show.

As the route was only 4.1 miles, we did it four times, mixing up the directions. Although short, there is enough variation to keep it interesting, ranging from woods, water to meadows.

The weather was mixed between bright and cloudy with a temperature of 12oC, but with a 12 mph wind, it felt around 8oC. However, the wind off the lake was particularly chilly at times. And as usual, we took a picnic lunch with us.

Today’s stats.

Coffee and elevensies even made it into Tolkien. Before the movie. Both you and the coast behind you look good.
3:00 pm now: ride finished (120km); bike packed on car; 50 km on motorway; passed rapid antigen test; next two hours with Jen in dementia ward (Mozart clarinet concerto playing); home around 5:00 pm (12 hours after leaving).

In the foreground of the selfie photo, one can see how the council has protected the foreshore with heavy rock work: no storm damage. Beyond the groyne, last month's bathing beach – destroyed in the storm – has been replaced with new 'red' sand which doesn't slope correctly into the sea. (Red sand because this is the Redcliffe Peninsula.)

Today was my lucky day, a half mile from home my freehub gave up! At first I thought my chain had come off... It could easily have happened a long way from home so I was incredibly lucky! Lesson learned once again, I really should have serviced it a long time ago as it has now covered over 14,000 miles! That aside what a great ride in the sun, it was chilly but for the time of year it was lovely! We are expecting a high of 14C tomorrow, almost t shirt weather in these parts! ;)

Nice dry roads today, I didn't need to clean my bike for a change!

A lovely blue sky to enjoy today!

I saw quite a few cyclists out today which is unusual for midweek, they weren't retired oldies like me either! ;) I guess they were just taking advantage of the lovely weather with a day off work! When I think of some of the hills I climbed today it was a miracle my freehub didn't pack in on one of those, this particular one goes up for well over a mile so I'm glad it didn't happen there...

Strangely it actually gave up on a flattish road and very close to home, such a relief! I decided to order a new set of wheels, the same Mavic Allroads I purchased a few years ago! I will have a look at the freehub and see if its fixable and keep the old wheels as spares! I got a real bargain as they were £40 cheaper than when I bought them in 2019! Hopefully I will have my bike up and running for Sunday which is looking pretty good, in fact our weather is looking promising for the next week or so! 👍

Our ride today took us to another reservoir. This time, Grafham Water in Northamptonshire.

The weather again was very kind to us with the temperature being 12oC and a slight wind of 6mph, so not much in the way of wind chill, which was nice.

The fly fishermen were having problems today as the water was still a bit too cold and the Trout were not biting.

I always associate your ride reports with great picnics - probably because I'm lucky if I remember water and an energy bar for mine!
