Our Rides in Words, Photos & Videos

Have a go at these:

Puyallup, Washington

Pysht, Washington

And why Costco's brand is Kirkland instead of Issaquah.

"We are happy to call Washington state our home. Visit our corporate offices at:

999 Lake Drive
Issaquah, WA 98027"
To be fair, there was a shuffle of cities/zip codes a few years back... My Aunt "moved" from Bothell to Kirkland. Maybe the same sort of thing happened at the south end of the spectrum 🤣?

Mrs DG had a day off today, so we went for a nice leisurely ride this afternoon.

Weather was overcast, but breezy but not as bad as it has been recently. Temperature was 10oC, but with the wind, felt like 6oC.

Found a new watering hole to stop for a break. I had hot chocolate, but Mrs DG had ice cream…

By the time we were on the way back, it was getting dark, sunset was at 17:04. However, the Moon front lights worked very well.

I rode my usual route today in the normal fashion but with periods of thaw and freeze temperatures that we’ve been experiencing of late, it’s led to some very icy conditions especially on downhill sections. Case in point, I took a spill as I dropped down at the entry into the Bluff single track. It was almost impossible to avoid even braking at slow speed with aggressively studded tires. All I can say is that it sure pays to have body protection on as most of the impact was on my right elbow and knee. Both my bike and I managed to avoid injury and carried on. Phew! 😰

Icy sections along the Heritage single track.

The wide XC ski run was in good shape as I exited the Bluff trail but decided not to ride the Riverbend Ring today and instead moved onto the Pines single track. The skate marks of skiers are quite evident on this uphill section of the run.

It was a very pleasant day to be out in the woods and I didn’t come across any other bikers as I completed the remainder of my ride at Heritage Ranch.

@Prairie Dog I'm glad you weren't hurt, falling on ice can be very painful!

True story this but I went cycling round Loch Katrine in Scotland many years ago and I had only just set off when I came across a couple walking hand in hand on the path, it was none other than Charlie Sheen and Denise Richards! There was a film crew further round the loch so they must have been filming something but I never found out what! I just said hi its a nice day for a walk and they returned the compliment! :D

My fav is syrup.
shortened from.... Syrup of figs
It means wig.
seen the syrup on that guy!

It seems it was also used by west coast American criminals in the early 1900s

Falls are twice as bad if someone is watching.
This happens more often than you would think but mostly when riding with the boys. We never give it a second thought as we’re all prone to creating our own unforced errors. ;)

I can only recall one incident where I’ve taken a spill in front of a total stranger as a result of picking the wrong line on a slight descent. It didn’t make it any easier prior to the incident as he stopped along the trail as I followed closely behind him. He suggested that I go ahead and take the lead. Seconds later, boom! 🙃

FINALLY, a decent ride!

Needed to restock my wine rack, but also wanted to give the trailer a good workout in a rural road scenario (but without the traffic and other distractions of the actual rural road!). So, I hitched up and rode off to the old Seaplane base, where the stores are. The base also has miles of road available to ride, with the added bonuses of not a lot of traffic and a mostly 25mph speed limit for cars. Perfetto! It's my go-to when I'm riding alone just want to get some miles in without worrying about "issues" 😉.

The empty trailer pulled very nicely! I was afraid over distance there'd be a lot of bouncing around, but it was smooth and quiet - if I hadn't seen it in my mirror, I wouldn't even have known it was there!

It wasn't as pretty a day as Monday was, but felt warmer as there was no wind:

They may be pests, but they're not dumb - they know there's no hunting on base 😁:

Further along the harbor, another gray view:

Closed the loop at the Exchange to load up on wine and purchase a few other items before heading home. I feel like I really deserve a nice glass or two this evening 😁!

And, stats:

So that was a 2 hour out and back ride. Like half empty/ half full, I suppose.
What did you think of pulling the trailer that far once it was loaded?
