I finally took my ebike for a test ride.

Set it up as sold,..

I'm not gunna sell it !!
I like my ebike !!
I just gotta get the speedometer figured out.🤪

Actually, I went for a ride yesterday, and didn't even turn on the mid-drive, and just used the hub drive.
I can take my time to get the mid-drive figured out.

I'm pretty sure that I can glue 8 magnets to the rotor, then set the "speed magnet" setting to 5,6 or 7 to try and "dial it in" with some accuracy using the throttle and the maximum speed setting?

Set it up as sold and go for a ride. 👍

I'm gunna test it under load on the road and see what happens.

These are my settings with the current set to 18 amps, and the speed set to 40 kph for PAS modes 4-9,..

Screenshot_20260816_184408_Speeed.jpg

It's not going to go 40 kph in PAS 4 with less than 9 amps, so I should be able to change PAS modes to keep it near 32 kph?

If that doesn't work I'll reset everything to the factory settings,.. Again. 😁

I did Piss Off my Display though, and the settings are different now with different adjustments ??
I don't know what happened??

Only this,.. 🤣

I adjusted my settings again before my next test ride,..

When the "cruise control" was kinda working before, I only needed to add about an amp to stabilize the speed.

If the jump in amps was too much (when starting from a low amp PAS setting), the ebike would start surging.

Adding ~3-4 amps when it's already getting ~10 amps doesn't make ad much difference.

I agree and that's how I've been programming mine as well as the Ultra now. Lower PAS have smaller increases between as I want precise power and smooth transition between. Once I get up around Pas 5 I need power for hills and such and want to feel it. And once you're already powering the bike heavily the increases up feel less aggressive and more natural with the larger jumps in current.
That's why I've always disagreed with what most do and program it to look neat on paper... 10 - 20 - 30...

I spontaneously decided to do some off-roading today and try my mid-drive motor on some hills,..

20260819_132247.jpg

I already had it on my 44t chain wheel, so I put it in 1st gear (34t on the freewheel), and Hammered It !!

No-go.
I had to put my feet out to the sides and walk it up, with the wheel pushing and spinning.

So I tried again 🙃
This time I locked both throttles (mid-drive and hub-drive, 18 amps each at ~48V) while holding the brake lever.
Then I "dumped the clutch" and managed to climb the hill standing on the pedals.
(I couldn'ta pedaled anyway, cuz the rutts were too deep)

I ended up falling over once further on down the trail, when I was in a rutt that I couldn't see (grown over with grass) and I also ended up dropping my chain.

I didn't realize it at the time because I was using both motors.
The BBS02B chain wheel was spinning with the chain sitting on the plastic motor cover.

Fortunately, nothing was damaged, so I just grabbed the chain put it back on to the chain wheel and carried on.

And BTW.
NO PROBLEM AT ALL GRABBING MY WAXED CHAIN TO PUT IT BACK ON THE CHAINRING!!

If that was my greasy ass chain of yesteryear, I woulda been looking for a stick or a handful of leaves or something.

Then I got to this part of the trail,..

20260819_133858.jpg

That's called a wheelie bike.

That was never my intention, cuz I don't know how to do wheelies, and then I went ahead and did this,..

I just installed a seat extender and launched my seat back a good three inches or so.

20260819_133910.jpg

I get on my ebike, which is already angled uphill, 🔨 Both Throttles, and my front wheel comes off the ground almost a foot.

So I roll back down the hill to try again, but this time I decided to stand up and lean forward.
Which is of course what I should have done in the first place, but I didn't think of that before hand 🤔 😅

Quite the adventure!!

I didn't ride that trail At All last year.

The rutts were up to 8" deep and my pedals would hit the top of the rutts.
And there was mud and water in the rutts as well.

I got to a spot last year where I could sit and have a 🚬

I was being Swarmed by mosquitoes, then looked down to see a tick burrowing into my arm.

F - THAT !!!
I got the Hell Outta There !!
I got home to find a Tic burrowing into my crotch when I went to take a piss.

I'm pretty damn sure that I now have lying disease.
The local deer ticks carry the disease, and I Haven't Spoken A SINGLE Word of Truth in over a YEAR !!!

I think I'm doomed now?
But I could be lying ??
Who knows for sure ?? 😁

I had to realign my seat.
I adjusted it on the side of the road, and got my seatpost notches off by one notch.

The seat was leaning to one side.
And I was torquing the Hell outta my Suntour seatpost with my seat Way Back, so I cranked the Snot Outta my seatpost spring.

I torqued it till it bottomed out.
Just like the instructions say. 😁

I Really Am Digging the seat further back.
I'm more comfortable in my seat, and I can lean into my backrest.

My handlebars are Way Too Forward now though, so I might need to do something about that?

I don't use the handlebars much, but I'm leaning over to reach them now.

That SUCKS !! 😁

I think you were doomed well before you took that ride. 😁

I cut this spring seat gizmo to extend my seat back,..

Screenshot_20260821_140707_AliExpress.jpg

I'm not sure that I want to trust it to not snap (it appears bent now ??), so I bought a half meter long, 7mm diameter stainless steel rod to replace the seat extension.

Screenshot_20260821_140218_AliExpress.jpg

I don't really care if the seat spring breaks, but it might cause an accident depending on how and where it breaks, so I'm gunna replace it with something stronger. (hopefully?)

Stop trying to reinvent the wheel.
Set it up as sold and go for a ride. 👍
I just gotta get the speedometer figured out.🤪

I Got My Speedometer Figured Out !!!

First I got the speedometer reading the same as my Voltbike speedo by adjusting the wheel size, (30" wheel diameter was the most accurate) but it still wouldn't get to 32 kph and stay there?

Then I remembered that changing the wheel size changes the speedometer reading, but not the actual speed.

So I used my display settings to increase the maximum speed to 35 kph, which FINALLY got the set speed to stay at just under 32 kph.

I could get rolling in a lower PAS mode, then crank it up to 9.
If it started surging in PAS 9, (18 amps,.. then 2 amps,.. then 18 again,.. ) I'd turn down the PAS mode until the maximum amps for that PAS mode closer matched the power needed at 32 kph. (depending on wind)

So it wasn't too bad, but it was still kind of a PITA.

My hub motor has No Problem maintaining a Constant Steady speed of 32 kph, and I don't feel ANY Surging or pulsing at all.
And I don't have to hit any buttons.
Just full throttle and it goes to 32 kph and stays there.
I don't even notice it adjusting the power to maintain the set speed.

I don't think that I'm going to bother gluing magnets to my rotor, but it would probably help with the surging?

I'll make do with the way it is for now, before I explore that 🐇 🕳 any further.

I've got a seat to extend backwards without breaking it off of my seatpost.
That's my next challenge.

Then I gotta learn to do wheelies. 😁

I think you were doomed well before you took that ride. 😁

Yeah fur sure.
I was born a problem child, I'm a maniac !!?@

My initials are PCB
That's Toxic !!

Without my middle name, my initials are PB !!
That's LEAD !! That's Toxic !!

Without the B, I'm left with just P, and Pee can be Toxic Too !!!

I'm feeling a little ill 🤒 right now barf puke

You need to go to the mcmaster carr website and look at their steel rods and compare what you bought to what they offer, that'll give you an idea of how strong they will be at that price point. That would be an ugly accident to have those rods break or bend. I have had some pretty good bounces on mine and no issues yet but my bike is suspended.

I just bought a stainless steel rod that I can cut in half.

I don't want spring steel.
Don't want no bendiness

that'll give you an idea of how strong they will be at that price point.

It's not so much about the strength, it's more about the bendiness. 😁

That would be an ugly accident to have those rods break or bend.

There is a reasonable chance that one rod could break, while the other rod bends, and my Ass could figure it out before I Crash? 😁

I bent the s*it outta mine when they were misaligned in the seatpost clamp.
