Decided to haul just the Rail 5 for a planned Friday of paved trail (27 miles) and a Saturday of mtb trails. Original Bontrager XR4 Comp tires aren’t the best for 27 paved miles but otherwise it was great day of food, fun, and a great ride by the Root River. Saturday was a blast on the Van Peenen Trails near Decorah, IA. I’m a total rookie at mtb but a willing participant. Let a few psi out of the tires and spent about 1.5 hours having a blast and then getting lost!🙄 Fell a few times from LACK of speed/momentum but no injuries to me or the Rail. Decided to walk out as I found myself on a trail well over my pay grade!😎
Lovin the Rail and looking forward to more time on the MTB trails.🍻

The Root River sounds like a hoot to ride. I never used to but I now don knee/shin/elbow pads anytime that I venture out on the local singletracks. One never knows what lurks along the trail or what could result if you become distracted for a brief moment. Been there done that. ;)

The Root River trail is a great 60 mile paved trail in southeastern Minnesota.
The Van Peenen trail area has a wide variety of MTB and other milder trails in N.E. Iowa. I just need to learn the trails so I don’t get lost!

Nice series of pictures. We have no paved trails within an hour of my house, just a few rocky, tree rooted, sandy rail trails that are really snow mobile trails - the snowmobile clubs maintain them.

Regarding the MTB trails, have you tried any of the MTB trail apps?

I just loaded the TrailLink app but haven’t really gotten into it yet.
