Charger 3 stolen.

After 43,000 kms in under 4 years someone pinched my Charger 3 Rohloff. My bad for just having a cable lock on at the time, but I'd removed the Kiox controller and site was busy with people, so didn't think anyone would bother. I was so wrong. So the great white charger is gone. Not holding my breath for its return even with 529 registry. I had a lot of good use out of it with no major issues.

Gone back to a hub motor on the Stromer st3 pinion. Will see how it survives my 10K+ a year. Yes I now have a huge chain, locking logic on bike, plus GPS tracking. Fingers crossed.

Sorry to hear that Ken. You can't take your eyes off your bike for a second these days...

Not sure if you've looked into it before but bike insurance is worth investing in. I'm paying around £15 a month and it covers everything, 3 bikes (2 e-bikes), bike accessories - including Cycle Computer/locks etc, personal accident costs, legal expenses in case of an accident, public liability cover, and accidental damage too. All they ask of you is to use a "Sold Secure Gold" bike lock, and that it's locked to an immovable object.

It's worth checking out if you've never considered it before. You just can't be too sure these days! I'm sure there will be providers in Canada that do the same thing.

Wow, almost 11,000 km/yr!! Are you sure it didn't just run away to find an easier life?

Seriously, terrible loss of an old friend.

Sorry to hear of your loss - super annoying for sure but the silver lining is the fun of experiencing a new bike…. I’d be super interested in your experience and thoughts on a Pinion gearbox vs the Rohloff….

I have a Rohloff on my non-electric gravel adventure bike but really do think Pinions may be the future (although so restrictive based on frame requirements)

So far so good on the ST3. Pinion real smooth and quiet, less drag I would say. But you're right it will be interesting, along with being back on a hub motor.
Last two bikes have been mid drive. Missed the regen a bit on my Bionx, liked it for the down hill braking more than anything else.
Requirements were reliably and low maintenance.
Rohloff and Pinion both rated for 100K kms and the belt a good 15K. Went through two and one set of sprockets on the RM over the life. E4 seaped a bit of oil, but seems it's not unheard of and wasn't worth sending it back East. Support was an issue with RM, but luckily didn't need much. Bosch CX was faultless.
Cheers
