We know this! But.. the temptation for speed is an obvious problem that may cause injury and restrictions for ebikes!
Beautiful networks of shared pathways all over the USA could potentially be no EBike zones if the 1% of knucklehead volt bros don’t slow the #%^* down! How can we handle this?
Any Ideas?

I had an old dude scream at me as I rode by, to get into the provided bike lane (because I was on the road). The law says ebikes must NOT be ridden in any bike lane where the bike lane is physically separated from the road by structures, however, as was the case.
And of course, many drivers believe that bikes are supposed to be on the sidewalks...which is fully illegal for adults, here.
I confess I was impressed once when a bike rider rode the sidewalk I was on and he was doing a wheelie the whole way and adeptly avoiding the people.
What to do with people? Gotta love 'em while we are still people, at least for a couple more years.

I ignore idiots like that and try to stay out of their way so they don't run me down. I've had similar experience with drivers yelling at me to stop at stop signs. That isn't the law, bikes can roll stop signs here as long as it is safe.

The only speed demons I see, riding at inappropriate speeds on pathways with pedestrians and their ubiquitous dogs, are lycra clad roadies on analog bikes.
NOT e-bikes!
Of course this is my observation and is subject to change with additional experiences.
There are already existing laws (here at least) about speed on shared pathways and I've never seen enforcement.

It's a shame that the e-bike industry can't seem to find a common message to properly educate law makers about the facts - speed limits are speed limits and not withstanding speed limit differences for large trucks on many highways, they apply the same way for Chevy, Ford, Porsche, Tesla and Yugos.
Don't ticket the Porsche because it's a Porsche, ticket the DRIVER if he or she is driving improperly (speed, stunting etc..).

As always, my $0.02 and subject to change, but probably not on this one.

Seriously enforced speed limits which in some cases are too high. I can only speak to one set of trails in Acadia National Park in Maine. The signs say only class 1 Ebikes allowed and speed limit is 20 mph which is too fast. Admittedly I've never had a problem with speeders and have yet to even see any LEOs ever. I can tell you that if you go around some of those turns at 20 and there is someone coming from the other direction then you're screwed.
