It is very important to have a olive setting tool when cutting new hose.

Choose your olives carefully.
They are not created equal.

Make sure the hose is tight when you put in the barb and screw the olive so all the fluid stays in when pumping the reservoir on top.

I use the Park tools at work, but I have that all-in-one tool for the home shop. It works really well, just take your time.

I replaced the funnel I broke with one that has a brass coupler, but I still haven't made a brake line.

Maybe I should break my brakes, so's I can make new brakes?

I've got enough brake line for a 40 foot cargo bike.

Another application for cable actuated hydraulic brakes are BMX stunt bikes. They will do things like take a jump and spin the handlebar four times before landing. Can't do that with hydro hoses.

Now that’s cool. I hadn’t even thought of that use case, PedalUma. Absolutely right. Do they make BMX bikes with disc brakes these days? I must admit, I am way out of touch. My kids were riding BMX bikes 30 years ago… That’s the last interest I had.

Yes, those are mostly for racing with six bolt hubs.

The big problem with rim brakes is that the braking surface is close to the ground. So, they tend to get grubby. Also, good disc brakes keep the pad very close to the rotor - helping keep out funk. Also, rim brakes suck when they get wet. And if the wheel is out of true or dinged. IME riding bikes for almost 50 years, disc brakes are superior in every way to rim brakes - especially on heavier e-bikes.

So far only trikes or maybe some self balancing prototypes.

one thing about these cable brakes is there is not the capacity to dissipate heat like on regular hydro's so if you need lots of braking, they are going to be an issue.

The rotor dissipates most of the heat and aluminum calipers heat sink into frame. Even the steel cable would dissipate heat. However I avoid using the brakes as much as possible plus no long descents and with short rides heat is never an issue for me.

Probably even better than mineral oil inside a plastic brake line?

I remember practicing some emergency braking and burned my finger on the rotor when I touched it afterwards.

There was no noticeable heat coming off the plastic brake line.
