Hi can any tell me if it possible to convert a 48v controller to 72v ,i have taken it apart after trying to run the bike with a 72v battery and smoked one of the five 740uf 63v capacitors , i have looked up the specs of my mosfets ,68v 120 amps and theirs 15 of them and there are three 47uf 63v caps as well, any help would be great Thank Steven

Buy a 72V converter if you need one. Check the part number on the 3 pin voltage regulator in your board, probably a LM317 variant. Betcha it's not even rated for 60V,

Thanks for your reply, I am not electricly minded,on the hand , do have a soldering iron and the will to use it, i don't know where the voltage regulator is on the board

The capacitors in your image are rated at 63v so it doesn't matter what the voltage regulator is rated at since the capacitors can't handle 72v.

Thanks for looking. I see the capacitor in the middle vented. If that hadn't happened the regulator or one of the MOSFET's probably would have failed later. A 72V battery is 84V when fully charged. Those controller makers aren't spending the money for high voltage parts when the market is for 48V.

I have tried another 72v controller and it doesn't seem to work properly, the throttle only goes to the speed of what you have the pas set to, its making 3200w and is slower and far less torque, the 52v battery was making 1850w and has far more torque and i can get the throttle to go flat out in any pas mode and was 6 mph faster,I was just wondering what parts I need to buy so my old controller can handle a 72v battery

Sur Ron is calling( get a motorcycle if you want one,)you are playing with fire and rest assured the 72 volt battery can electrocute you. Otherwise good luck
