I found the data analysis linked below to be one of the best articles I’ve seen on the potential spread of the virus and what we should do.

Pretty bleak, as far as the spreading. My wife and I closed her business 3/1. We have been distancing for the past 17 days ( we did do a shopping run just before the panic buying, we did not hourd) . I will say this, the blowback on misinformation on this will be pretty bad. If it can be shown that delaying response added the kind of numbers the report indicated for the casuality count, there will be a large swath of public officials on the wrong side of history.

And Jared is on the job...in more ways than one...he and his brother have a company profiting from the virus...but there is a ray of hope...TeeMan is trying (for a billion) to buy ‘exclusive rights’ from the German company developing the vaccine...of course Germany is not happy about it but they’ll get over it.

Many companies will make profits doing things associated with the epidemic
or the virus...grocery stores are making a killing as are manufactures and sellers and transporters of toilet paper and paper towels and hand sanitizer wipes, vitamins, masks...more info on that thing you're trying to sell would help you show there's something nefarious going on.

The news media constantly lies, and takes comments out of context. Another one was the "no responsibility', it was asked about the test kit delay, but made to sound like Trump shirked everything. The lying media people are a national disgrace. They lied the whole time on the fake impeachment too. And the Russia-hoax, and on and on. They are proven to be untrustworthy. But people still believe them - I find that amazing.

They're more worried about what it's called than what is or has to be done. After calling it the same thing themselves.

If your news comes from cnn or nbc, you're being duped. These people are seriously delusional, pushing their own agenda. Time to wake up and smell the coffee. NYT is another one - proven liars, fake news.

Cnn has the worst ratings in the biz. At least most get it.

We went to six stores over two days for a dozen eggs. People were buying five times what they needed. Shelves are universally empty. The herd mentality will be our undoing - just follow them off a cliff. LOL

Please, let's try to be a little fair and be honest enough to realize that talking about this disease outbreak will inevitably be political. This is also a very frightening and perplexing time, literally unlike anything we have ever experienced. It is reasonable and probably healthy to be a bit freaked out.

We can all disagree without being too disagreeable, I think.

O.K., we've done the politics. How about a little attempt at humor? If your country is mentioned below in a way you don't agree with, please understand that I mean no offense to anyone. This is just something which someone forwarded to me and I found it entertaining.

Stay safe and healthy - and ride your e-bikes! My county goes into a 30 day lockdown starting today at 5:00 pm, but going out for exercise is allowed, including bicycling!

The English are feeling the pinch in relation to the recent virus threat and have therefore raised their threat level from “Miffed” to “Peeved.” Soon, though, the level may be raised yet again to “Irritated” or even “A Bit Cross.”

The English have not been “A Bit Cross” since the blitz in 1940 when tea supplies nearly ran out.

The virus has been re-categorized from “Tiresome” to “A Bloody Nuisance.” The last time the British issued a “Bloody Nuisance” warning level was in 1588, when threatened by the Spanish Armada.

The Scots have raised their threat level from “Pissed Off” to “Let's Get the Bastard.” They don't have any other levels. This is the reason they have been used on the front line of the British army for the last 300 years.

The French government announced yesterday that it has raised its alert level from “Run” to “Hide.” The only two higher levels in France are “Collaborate” and “Surrender.” The rise was precipitated by a recent fire that destroyed France's white flag factory, effectively paralyzing the country's military capability.

Italy has increased the alert level from “Shout loudly and excitedly” to “Elaborate Military Posturing.” Two more levels remain: “Ineffective Combat Operations” and “Change Sides.”

The Germans have increased their alert state from “Disdainful Arrogance” to “Dress in Uniform and Sing Marching Songs.” They also have two higher levels: “Invade a Neighbour” and “Lose.”

Belgians, on the other hand, are all on holiday as usual; the only threat they are worried about is NATO pulling out of Brussels.

The Spanish are all excited to see their new submarines ready to deploy. These beautifully designed subs have glass bottoms so the new Spanish navy can get a really good look at the old Spanish navy.

Australia, meanwhile, has raised its alert level from “No worries” to “She'll be alright, Mate.” Two more escalation levels remain: “Crikey! I think we'll need to cancel the barbie this weekend!” and “The barbie is cancelled.” So far, no situation has ever warranted use of the final escalation level.

Everyone deals with emergencies and tragedies differently. Some might use humor, some anger. Most of us have some anxiety over this. Also important is where someone lives and the coverage of this from media. My location is probably a week behind in reaction than Washington state. Bringing in politics drives a wedge between friends and neighbors. This isn't the time for that. The last year I've learned people's political bent here, I wish I'd never found out. I'm trying not to hold it against them, as I've grown to like and respect most of you. Bringing in politics will ruin this forum as an escape from that madness.

Agreed. Now without pointing the finger at anyone, I'd like to show how some were deceived. Here is a typical article on how Jared Kushner ...he and his brother..." have a company profiting from the virus".
The Kushner family is trying to cash in on the pandemic that could kill millions of us.

Oscar Health, the health insurance company co-founded by Jared Kushner’s younger brother, announced Friday it has launched a testing center locator for COVID-19. It shows where more than 100 centers are in the United States. The company is also offering a risk assessment survey and means to talk to a doctor online.

1 day ago - The Kushner family is trying to cash in on the pandemic that could kill millions of us. Oscar Health, the health insurance company co-founded by ...
.

The deceit is in telling the faithful implicitly that it's a Kushner company by telling the faithful that it was co-founded, which sounds like "co-owned".

If our good friends used another biased source that they probably approve of (Snopes), we can see that Snopes isn't so outrageously deceptive and allows a peek at how our friends here were unwittingly taken in by their media sources:
What's True
Jared Kushner’s brother, Joshua, is co-founder of the health insurance start-up Oscar, which recently released an online tool to locate COVID-19 testing centers in some areas. At least in the past, Jared Kushner has had a financial interest in Oscar.
Oh, that's different. They mention Jared's financial interest was AT LEAST IN THE PAST.
Later, they show this
Jared Kushner received a certificate of divestiture for, among other things, four Thrive-associated funds in February 2017.

In a narrow legal sense, this removed the conflict of interest associated with his financial ownership in his brother’s companies, according to Virginia Canter, who serves as chief ethics counsel for the nonpartisan Center for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), which also provided us with Kushner’s Certificate of Divestiture. But, she told us, his divestment does little to alter the appearance of a conflict of interest...

So for Jared now it's whittled down to divested but still there is "the appearance".

That is why Snopes is focusing on potential profit from the TESTING for the virus, as if that's the thing now.
And what of Joshua's CO-FOUNDING of Oscar? Does that mean he is now co-owner?

See how the media deceives our poor friends?

Now it's down to a true claim of Joshua co-founding, as in the past, rather than now co-owning.

To kind of get this thread back on topic...

I don't know how many of you are aware of this, but as part of the lockdowns in Italy and Spain nearly all outdoor recreational activities, including cycling, are now banned. In France it is kind of ambiguous and I can't exactly figure out if it is okay or not -- there are sporadic reports of the gendarmes ticketing people riding their bikes, but the official language doesn't explicitly ban such activity.

The Bay Area's "shelter-in-place" directive, on the other hand, explicitly allows outdoor activities such as hiking, walking your pet, and cycling.

Now, I know many of you probably had a similar reaction to mine (along the lines of "Oh hell no!"), but there is actually some method to the madness. My understanding is that given that health care resources are already overtaxed, engaging in an activity that could cause injury and use some of those health care resources might actually end up killing people. Now I said I understand the reasoning -- keep in mind that is a long way from agreeing with it.

Here's the real deal....I find myself as misinformed by CNN as I imagine goes on at Fox. I only read the news , my wife and I have not had a TV news channel subscription or watched what's available on Prime since September 11th and it's aftermath. Have I glanced at a News station in a waiting room or Bar? Of course, but I don't allow any talking head "think" for me. I don't trust any of them .

At some point we will all have to be Americans again. Actions, not words, will get us through this. Once we start receiving our "checks" from the bailout package we will all experience Socialism, wether we like it or not. That's not a political ding ( I am not a Socialist) it's just going to be the new what-is. My hope is we simply put all the retoric aside and help "our" country get through this.

This can be a somewhat 'older' crowd on this forum. Anyone else want to pine with me for 'the good old days' when TV news actually reported 'the news' as opposed to having whatever agenda they happened to be pushing? And it seems that they still haven't figured out why their industry has gone into the toilet, and now they seem to create more news (to increase viewership) then they actually report.

WWWCD? (What Would Walter Cronkite Do)

Berlin:
Germany is facing its biggest challenge "since the Second World War" in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic, Chancellor Angela Merkel said in a television address urging citizens to heed sweeping confinement measures.

I'm surprised she's bringing up the Second World War, since they started it. I guess she's just happy that this time it isn't their fault.

I totally agree with this post! We know how Walter would handle this.

Excellent... TMH has been nominated for the best EBR post of the year! ;)
