That's the whole point of this bike. Looks like a regular bike that provides a bit of a boost.

in a 35 pound bike, keep in mind. knock off the fenders, swap to a lightweight post/bar/saddle, take a few more bits off and you're rocking 350W peak power in just over 30 pound bike... Even stock it will be fairly snappy!

Yep, geared rear hub. Direct drive would be 3 times larger and at least 2x lesser torque.

Cool that's good to hear, better torque in a small package, and no drag for unpowered riding (which is actually pretty practical when the bike is this light)
