Two different models of RM Multicharger cargo bags?

I ordered a RM cargo pannier for my Multicharger and received a black one with an outer flap like this one:

But when I looked on YouTube for installation videos, I found this version, which is quite different:

Does anyone know the differences? The one I received is very well made, but doesn't seem like it would be waterproof. The other one (dark grey) looks more streamlined and minimalist and maybe is also made from a different material. It has four attachment straps vs the black one, which has three. And there is no outer flap.

Anyone have any experience of the one shown on Youtube?

Thanks,

Peter

Hi Peter, the image and the video are the same bags, albeit a different colour. I have the same for my charger. They are massive when you expand them

Can you post an actual picture of your pannier?

Elliot

Hi Elliot, They're quite different actually. The original is super heavy and has the outer flap that you can use to attach bulky items on the outside of the bags. The new one doesn't. It also has more pockets internally, a different expansion mechanism and seems to be just generally more heavy duty. But I haven't seen the new ones in person. I just returned the bags because they didn't work with my child seat...I knew that might be the case, but wanted to see if there was a way.

Below is the hopeless email exchange I had with RM customer service who seemed to know little about the cargo bags -- talk about disappointing first encounter with RM service. Is it too much to expect that they know their products fully, or at least have access to information about what they sell? It seems particularly poor to say that someone else manufactures them and therefore they don't know anything, especially given that they are RM branded. Anyway, not impressed.

Hi,

thanks for coming back!

Sorry, we don't have any more detailed informations about the cargo bags, but I contacted our service department and finally I can tell you the bags have roundabout 33 Litres volume and there is one internal pocket for small accessories.

The bags are not waterproof but splash water protected. You can check that out much better if you go to a Riese & Müller dealer who has a wide range of our bikes, I would recommend Flying Dutchman or Fully Charged. It's always the best to see and touch the products live.

Hello ,

I was not asking for a replacement, but rather to understand what has changed in the new version since there is no information available.

I wish there was a product description with photos somewhere (for example, are these made of a waterproof material? What is the volume? What pockets exist internally?) — that seems reasonable to expect as a customer of a high-end bicycle. Do you have that information somewhere?

Thanks,

Hi ,

thanks for the pictures, now I know what you mean. Well, as I told you, there had been some improvements on the cargo bags, now the bags as shown in the videos are the newest version.

Your dealer can order them in our service department, that won't be a problem. We can't offer a replacement change free of charge for the bags, this is not possible, I'm sorry.

Hi ,

Thanks. I’ve attached a photo of the one I got and a link to the video that RM has posted for installation on YouTube. They’re very different — the fist has a separate external flap, has fewer securing straps , is orange inside, folds out differently, seems to be of a different material and the coloring is different too.

Thanks for any information you can give me.

Best

Hi ,

I'm very sorry I can't sort out what kind of differences you see with the Multicharger Cargo bags.

Are you able to send me pictures of the different models, then I'll have a good chance to find out what the situation is. We, Riese & Müller, don't produce these bags in our factory, we get them done with one of our suppliers, therefore I need more informations.

Hello!

Thank you for responding, but would you please tell me about the back cargo bags Rm produce for the Multicharger — there seem to be two quite different versions. Your video shows one that is very different from the one I bought. I prefer the one on the video, but nobody seems to know anything about the version shown on the Riese and Muller YouTube - it’s the one that shows how to install it. This is a Riese and Muller cargo bag, not a third party bag.

My local rm dealer, as I mentioned, is so poor that I will never to back to them, which is why I contacted you directly for this question. I have no faith that they will know anything, sadly.

I will send you my feedback about the dealer separately.

In the meantime, I hope to hear from you about about cargo bags produced by RM for the Multicharger. It’s confusing for customers, me included.

Many thanks and best wishes

Hello

thank you for your message!

In the field of accessories for cargo bikes, there are also further developments or successor models for transport bags, baskets or similar.

Any Riese & Müller dealer can provide you with a precise overview of the availability of cargo bags for your Multicharger.

Of course, we are always interested in feedback, not only for our bikes, but also about the specialist dealers.

You are welcome to describe your experiences here by replying, we can then take care of it, thank you!

Kind regards

Betreff: Multicharger cargo bags — are there two versions?
Nachricht:
Hello,

I bought a multicharger Mixte Enviolo in November and also just bought the cargo bags. However, when looking at the online installation videos, they are not the same as the ones on the videos. Different design, securing straps, color and maybe also material? Are there two versions and what are the main differences? I can’t find any information online.

I prefer the ones in your videos since they seem more streamlined and minimalist.

The other question I have is whether you are interested in receiving feedback about your dealers? I had a very poor experience with my local shop that left me feeling that I made a mistake buying a Riese and Muller bike. I will never go back to the dealer and have looked elsewhere for future support. If that is feedback is welcome, where should I send it?

Thank you.

Best,
