Tannus Armour now available in Fat Sizes

hi tom, i bought a pair of maxis minion (26x4.0) i inserted a tannus armour into my rear fatty tire. i was also supplied with 3.0-3.5 tube, but have noticed other people using
smaller ones. i inflated front to 20psi and rear with tannus to 15psi. i just wondering is your setup similar what max did you go on tubes inserted into tannus. im quite heavy, but
i do notice wheels dont feel firm, very soft on road, wondering have i under inflated these. can you give me advise on your setup.
I will as soon as I ride them (my Fatty and Aventon Level). Got some Ice and snow on the trails and I stay off of that stuff. The Tannus documentation said you can run them pretty low after you break them in.

I just got a pair of Tannus tire inserts for my 26x4.8 fat tires, along with a set of 26x3.0" tubes, as per Tannus info.

I have a problem with the tube size,
I inserted the tubes inside the inserts, and gently pumped them up, to make them into a round diameter,
the tubes over lap by 2-3" (Z shaped), when inside the tire inserts, I don't believe that these tubes are the correct size.
These inserts/tubes are sitting where they can be gently warmed to a nice round shape, by the sun shining thru the window.

The tubes measure about 78" around their outside diameter, with just enough air to barely make them into a round shape,
and I believe that the tubes will have severe creasing when fully filled to 20+ lbs.

Your thoughts and suggestions,
Tia,
Don
I received the 3" tubes with my Armour. They seemed to fit OK, don't know if there are are creases, it seemed like it was possible. But you are supposed to inflate to max pressure, ride them a bit then you can decrease the pressure. I don't think the tube will have a problem if there is a crease, but I am just guessing here.

I have 3.0 to 3.5 tubes, for 26x4.0 tires. im guesing you need 3.5 -4.0. dont really know why they list a range on tubes, im guessing your tube is too small. also use a round bin to install armour, it works wonders
follow this video. id also suggest to contact tannus to confirm size. also my rims are 80mm, you may run into trouble if you trying to install 4.8 on a 80mm rim, recommendation is 100mm for 4.8 tires.

Pics would help, Don. I just took a look at the TA site and indeed they recommend the 3.0 inch tubes you have. Mine were an older purchase and with it came 2.4/2.8 tubes, which I thought were waaay too small. But, once up to pressure-25 psi for asphalt and general purpose riding on hard pack, they were fine.

Recommend you install the insert into the tire. Then, put your tube into the insert and pump up to expand it. This way, you can better ensure the tube and insert is all centered nicely in the tire carcass. You can put more air pressure into the tube while in the tire itself, cause the tire's steel belt puts pressure against the tube. When everything looks good, proceed to work the tire beads onto the rim, ensuring the TA is tucked in, past the bead, all the way around.

Minions max pressure is 20psi while the Schwalbe JJ's are 30. My JJ's pop the bead with a loud bang. Not sure if those Maxxis tires snap with the same authority....

Per the info on the Wart Hog site, the rims are 100mm wide, as I have OEM 26x4.8" tires?

I may just buy a smaller 26x175" tube, just in case.

Thanks,
Don

I plan on doing that once the bike gets here, I'll set everything in the sun room, should be nice and warm,
so everything will iron out nice etc.
As it stands now, I have approximately a 3" "Z" shaped over lap in the tubes,
I am wondering if the tubes are not mismarked, I could see a 1/2" over lap, but not 3"+,
while they are inside the T inserts.

I double checked the measurements on the outside diameter of the tube,
just inflated enough to get a round shape, and I came up with a diameter of 78",
following the center of the tube.

Hey all, we're super excited about all the talk about Tannus Armour on EBR, glad it's working for so many of you. Just wanted to make sure that you heard that Armour is now available in fat sizes, 26 x 4 - 4.8". Here's a link to a little video overview:

Happy to answer any questions in the forum here today!

hi,

i needed to replace a burst tube inside the tannus armour, i was using a26x3.0 tube. i replaced it with a 26x4.o tube, and its working fine, is there any specific reason why we cant use a 26x4.0 tube.
