Corratec LifeS (Germany). A cruiser advertized with a video (NSFW) marketing campaign involving nekkid women giving the finger, and men stroking their moustache or kissing their bicep...Supercrazy! Nah, very Eurotrash and unintentionally the funniest ebike marketing video I've seen.
Asia Bike, E-bike 4 (Sri Lanka). The company recently announced expanded production of budget priced ebikes for the European market in anticipation of the EU imposing anti-dumping duties on Chinese ebikes.
Now for something a bit different, DIY converting a classic loop-frame pedal bicycle. For example a Pashley step-through requires a crank/mid-drive motor because of the drum brakes front and rear and a rear internal geared hub, and the heavy hand-brazed lugged steel frame benefits from a pedal assist motor, although bear in mind this type of conversion will add 13-15lb to the already hefty 40lb weight. A bike shop in New Zealand did the Pashley conversion shown below, installing a Bafang BBS01 motor and zip-tied a brick shaped battery on the front rack under the basket as described on another forum. The image below shows a Pashley Princess Sovereign with BBS01, note the fully enclosed chaincase on this model had to be removed, a Hebie Chainglider could replace it provided you use either the bafang supplied chainring minus the plastic disk-guard or a chainring adapter and chainring - note neither the Pashley enclosed chaincase or the Hebie chainglider work with an offset chainring like a Lekkie bling ring for which you would need Pashley’s hockey stick chain guard as used on their Britannia model.
Of the Pashley model lineup a good donor bike for conversion would be the Pashley Britannia with the optional 8-speed Shimano Nexus IGH - I converted a 1990's Dawes steel hybrid with this motor/IGH combination and I have found the wide range of the Nexus 8 works well with the BBS01 allowing me to climb fairly steep 8-10% grade hills. Another New Zealand bike shop Blackwell & Sons now offer a BBS01 conversion of this model, using the Lekkie ‘Summit’ rebranded BBS01, with the battery mounted on the seat tube, this feature could be replicated using a couple of Grin Tech bottle bob’s, and because the BBS01 can use the Britannia’s chain guard they also fit a Lekkie offset chain ring.
