Unfortunately, glacial melt created by pollution/global warming is occurring at a faster rate in Banff NP which has resulted in lower river levels. Water from glacial runoff is crucial to those particularly in the southern agricultural sector who depend on a steady supply of mountain water.
As you touched on this matter in your previous post, with the pressing demand for fresh water sources in the western states already at a historical high, we Canucks will see the cost of imported produce at local grocers rise significantly. In fact, it’s probably happening already. To help the cause, I encourage all who can grow their own vegetables whether it be in their own backyard, deck or in local community garden plots. We’ve been doing this for the past six years and share the bounty with family, relatives, neighbors and friends as well as the local food bank. We’re all in this together.
