Best ride of the year so far thanks to a change in the weather, the wind finally turned to an easterly direction and was only around 12mph! Such a difference from the blustery southwesterly winds that seemed never ending, easterly is much colder though and I sure felt it for the first 20 miles or so until I turned south!

After around 10 miles I turned west and had the breeze behind me for the last 20 miles, it actually felt like Spring and was such a joy to behold Just over 50 miles today which takes my 2020 total to 751 miles from 15 rides giving me an average of 50.06 miles! Next ride should be Sunday and the wind will return to southwesterly but should only be around 20mph with no crazy gusts for a change☺

Nice! I recognize many of those locations (the ford on Beaverdam south of Philomont is well known to me, and I think I posted in front of the same machinery sign a few pages back). The gravel network of Loudoun is indeed a gem. Where do you typically ride out of? I'm out of Leesburg, so I mostly ride the northern part of Loudoun (a bit south of Philomont/Mountville is about as far as I generally go).

I ride off right from my farm which is just below Unison, just up from Bloomfield. The gravel road network surrounds us here in foxhunting territory. More often than not the hoof prints and carriage wheel tracks impressed on the gravel roads outnumber the automobile/truck tire tracks!

Funny enough, Philomont and Mountville (such pretty areas, too) tend to be my northernmost border of my rides. However, I do plan to get out and explore them more. And yes, that farm equipment sign was on the east side of Rt 611 where you ride.

I always wave at every cyclist I see, so look for me out on the gravel roads!

I went to college in Hayward. Some weekends we would head to the Sierras for skiing on Saturday, then down to Monterey/Carmel for scuba diving on Sunday. Wonderful memories...

The gusty winds made an unwelcome return today but I wasn't letting those pesky winds spoil my day, I just made sure I avoided the nasty crosswinds with a carefully selected route! Even some heavy rain showers weren't going to stop me enjoying an epic 55 mile ride today, it really was such a fun ride thanks to my amazing bike The last 25 miles were a challenge with a 40mph headwind, my battery was really taking a beating so I had to turn off the assist on any flat sections to save it for the 10% climbs near home...luckily I made it with 5% remaining!

Wow! Great photos you all have posted. My wife and I return to WNC in about 10 days. I just found out that eBikes are banned on the VCT. Thanks to the Bikepacking.com site I have found some gravel routes I want to do an overnighter on. Pictures below (yawn) are where we stay during the winter. Today was hot but beautiful. The box on my wife's folder is for my dog to ride in. She prefers the back pack I use for her, the "box" is not enjoyable, I don't think.

Best ride of the year so far thanks to a change in the weather, just over 50 very enjoyable miles in the sun It started a bit chilly but that's to be expected at this time of year, I was well wrapped up for it of course! Light winds today so I headed for the hills to get my workout, just over 4,000 ft of climbing and some lovely descents I went a little overboard with pics today but it was just too beautiful not to capture it...

It was good to put the corona virus to the back of my mind and enjoy my day, I reserved the afternoon to take dad out for a drive to lift his spirits at this difficult time! I think it helped a little, at almost 92 years old he struggled through winter to be met with the worry of this awful virus I hope everyone is staying safe out there!
