Looking south to the La Jolla Peninsula from the south overlook, a city park. Never tire of this view.
Palm trees aren't native to SoCal. They were first brought in by wealthy estate owners in the 1930s. Now they're beloved regional icons.

A lizard was staring up at this dire warning when we first pulled up at the north overlook but scurried down the face of the cliff just as I got my phone off the handlebars. As if lizards can't read.

Encinitas has at least 8 public beach overlooks, all nicely landscaped, most with benches, and some with picnic tables. This part of town is always crawling with surfers drawn to the famous Swami's reef break below the 2 outlooks featured here. Why they need saving is unclear.
