2 rides too start the year off monday
a short ride out to test a mates knee.. (after a steroid injections) and has been laid up for three months. took the lanes to our local cafe at Eppleby ,was nice in the sun and dam chilly when we hit the shade. still great to be out together again ,26 miles we await the prognosison the knee tomorrow.

A short trip to Darlo to visit a friend damp and dank sort of day but not cold ..the return route was via a local bridleway to get me up to the railway museum and the cycle track back home.. it was a tad wet

but Sarah coped very well

Random pictures from my usual stomping grounds. A ride to Ewa Village then a few laps around a man made crater taking my time on return stopping for water break and snapping pictures.
I was especially thirsty today after eating dried salted plum.
Less than a mile of dirt road left and 2 bridges to complete to annex ORL (Oahu Rail & Land) bikeway with Pearl Harbor Historic Bikeway.

This month we are in Homestead, Florida. Nice weather around 80-85 degrees. Flat terrain here makes for easy riding.

The delivery truck that took out the fire hydrant left the scene, I and two others gave the police description of the truck.
80-85 here in Honolulu as well. Earlier
this it was 64, had to wear my warm up suit over my shorts and jersey. We have had plenty of rain over the past week, making the surroundings greener.

Still in winter mode here.

Just getting caught up to speed. It’s been a few weeks since my last entry and the miserably cold weather in December had me wondering if I would ever get back out on the bike. Those numbing days with the mercury plunging to levels not fit for man nor beast we’re really beginning to have an effect on my state of mind. Now those bone chilling temps are behind us (for now) we can look forward to longer days, even though Spring is still months away.

Here's what I’ve been up to recently with the milder weather conditions. I hit some familiar riding locales due in part to the superb conditions.

Finally the rain stopped!
Two weeks in and first ride of 2023.
It was a shorty at 20kms but a welcome reintroduction for my hips and knees. Everything is soaked so I stayed on roads and headed out to Bear Creek Park just for something to do.



Two of the trails were dead ends as they have some construction going on.





Heading back, a local field had some soccer action going on...





Needed some "supplies" on the way home...



Now enjoying a bevvy and feel better that I finally got the first ride in. Even though it was short it's good to get started again.
Wondering if I can match/beat 2022 stats...

rain stopped feel lucky it rained the whole 25 mile ride today .35 inches. we were on this nice path through a small forrest and hit this misty patch. its hard to take pics in the rain you have to remove your gloves and get a phone out and your hand gets wet.

One thing (amongst many) that amazed me in Australia was the use of beautiful furniture grade hardwoods (gum, or eucalyptus) for boardwalks and outhouse floors that we saw in Queensland (2006). As a woodworker, it made me drool.

As an ancient guy, I have been "pole walking" with a group of seniors twice a week (M and W) since 2020, after the arrival of the plague forced the ending of our gym-based circuit training sessions. I have tried to bike to each venue (trails scattered all over the Bellingham area), and have missed very few sessions in the last couple of years.

I chickened out during the snottiest weather in December and into January, but decided recently that I have to keep it up, so have biked to the two most recent sessions. I'm waiting to see what tomorrow's weather offers before if gird my loins for the ride. We only cancel if the weather looks truly awful. I'm still convinced that ebike riding is the best possible exercise that I can do, at my age. I'm one of the slowest walkers in the group (usually 12 to 20 of us). 90+ yo ladies with wooden legs can outwalk me. Testosterone is not strongly represented in the group, unfortunately--and this has nothing to do with age.

My favorite was the little plastic screen in the bottom of a urinal, with advertising on it. Seems nobody thought of the symbolism of having their logo peed on.

Back in the 1980's, during the Iranian hostage crisis, a company (I forget the name) made a big profit by selling those urinal screens with a picture of the Ayatollah Khomeini.


My company used them for a while and I felt like I was supporting the hostages every time I used the john.
