Apologies if this has been discussed before but today I came across Ron’s article publicizing an interesting new 350w 36v mid-drive kit motor designed in Ashland, OR, by Paul Daniel, an engineer who worked for Bremmo electric motorcycles.

This looks to be an excellent lightweight mid-drive motor for converting a pedal bike for a more active cyclist who doesn’t want/need a throttle, and particularly an MTB, cargo, or city bike, that need fine pedal control during low speed maneuvering under load, due to using a high quality Sempu bottom bracket torque pedal assist sensor. Revel supplies a 10.5ah/378wh battery pack potted for shock/water protection and using Grin Tech’s LiGo BMS. According to a review on the ES website the entire motor, PAS sensor, and battery system add 12lb to the weight of the bike, works with 68, 73, and 100mm threaded BB shell, and the Revel website has some 3D printable part files & CAD drawings to accommodate different frame designs. The sensitive BB PAS torque sensor measuring force on both sides of the crank axle is something until now only available for hub motors, and seems totally worth drilling a small hole in your BB for, it’s great to see a mid-drive kit motor using this technology. Revel can set speed as a Class 1 or Class 3, and the gear ratio can be changed by swapping out the front drive sprocket according to pedal cadence preference.
