Strong headwinds out in the valley along the Fraser river today. Discouraging even on an Ebike.
I missed a sunny day back home !Mt Baker over the vines ; View attachment 84681
Race or some sort of performance horses I bet. Salt water is good for their legs or so I've heard. Notice the eyes of the horse on our left. He's a bit scared. As is the rider. The other horse and rider are there to comfort them both. Wading out into that deep of water is not an easy thing for a horse first time. I used to swim with one of my horses. He loved it. Took one to the beach with 3 foot waves once. Talk about a freaked out horse.Morning dip…

Brighton Beach, BrisbaneThe Moreton Bay Cycleway runs behind the white pipe railing safety barrier.
7.55 am; 27 km
Usually it is possible to add the 'out' and 'return' distances to find out the total for the ride. This time the wind was blowing a bit too hard on my way back and I took a shortcut or two.

My day started very misty but cleared up nicely and with light winds it was a fun local ride! This Friday our travel restrictions are finally being lifted, best news for a long time! This was the view at the start of my ride!

What a fun ride that was, I'm now looking forward to going further afield and hoping a 100 miler will be on the cards soon!
thanks for the kind welcome! love your shots of the countryside. as a newbie, 42.9 feels fast!!!!!!! and yeah, rideWithGPS (or any GPS speed indicator!) always seems to take a little bit off the top from averaging and sampling, i assume!Welcome @mschwett Nice bike, love the Creo I hope you enjoy many miles of fun riding it in such a beautiful location! And one more thing: no headwinds, unless you were sufficiently masochistic to dial them in.

Newbie to e bikes? you have experience on analog bikes? 42.9mph is very fast, newbie or not!thanks for the kind welcome! love your shots of the countryside. as a newbie, 42.9 feels fast!!!!!!! and yeah, rideWithGPS (or any GPS speed indicator!) always seems to take a little bit off the top from averaging and sampling, i assume!
newbie all around... like most i rode bikes as a kid, and a little bit around the city in my early 20s... but hadn't been on a bike since then until i got a vanmoof s3 for a city bike around christmas. great bike for getting around town, but definitely not as fun and fast as the creoNewbie to e bikes? you have experience on analog bikes? 42.9mph is very fast, newbie or not!
A baptism of fire then, quite a start to your e bike career! You obviously have a good head on your shoulders, speed needs to be curtailed in certain situations! I love going fast but I know when not to go fast, treat everybody on the road like they can't see you and expect the unexpected! I look forward to your ride reports in the future, enjoy your Creo!newbie all around... like most i rode bikes as a kid, and a little bit around the city in my early 20s... but hadn't been on a bike since then until i got a vanmoof s3 for a city bike around christmas. great bike for getting around town, but definitely not as fun and fast as the creo
and yes, 42.9 feels pretty fast! definitely wouldn't be riding like that anywhere other than smooth open roads without traffic!
No, it is the e-bike speedometer that is wrongand yeah, rideWithGPS (or any GPS speed indicator!) always seems to take a little bit off the top from averaging and sampling, i assume!
"Wrong" is a subjective term in this case In my limited experience, if you go in a very straight line at a very steady speed, they approach the exact same value. Any changes in speed or direction and the accuracy and sampling frequency of GPS result in a speed which corresponds to a smoothed line across your path rather than the actual distance rolled by the wheel. Wheel circumference * rotational speed is a lot simpler formula than everything involved in GPSNo, it is the e-bike speedometer that is wrong
A distance from point A to B over a known route is a fixed and known value. My experience tells me GPS is doing measurement OK (otherwise car GPS navigation would make little sense). Most of speedometers/odometers for e-bikes produce values that are different from reality. Typically, the e-bike display reports longer distance ridden and higher cruising speed than is correct. Specifically, EVO displays for Giant e-bikes are notorious for overestimating the distance ridden and speed."Wrong" is a subjective term in this case In my limited experience, if you go in a very straight line at a very steady speed, they approach the exact same value.
